What Educational and Career Barriers Does Racism Cause?

The great philanthropists such as Du Bois were right about the challenges of the 21st

century. Racial segregation has become a common scenario across the world. Affirmative action

has further contributed to alleviating the challenge of discrimination by providing an advantage

to minorities. The utilization of the policy has been dominant in higher education and job areas.

The purpose of the framework is to access the educational and career obstacles that result from

racism.

Jnr, Martin Luther King. “Brown v. Board of Education 1954.” Angela Herbert (2016)

The case began in 1951 when the public school situated in Topeka, Kansas, refused to

administer the daughter of Oliver Brown, who was a black resident at a school that was nearest

to their home. Instead, he required her to join an elementary institution situated further away

from uniting them. That occasion resulted in the filing of a case by the Browns and twelve other

families filing a case in the U.S federal court. Complete Despite the Browns proceeded to win

the lawsuit following a successful hearing, the issue of racial segregation was evident. The case

is an example of a situation showing how the challenge of racial segregation is entrenched in the

educational system. Although Brown had the quality to join the school, the administration opted

to enroll in an elementary school.

Kitching, Karl.” Racism and Education.” (2019).

Kitching opposes several inequalities in the educational systems, and the lives of

individuals. The book thus illustrates how both parents and children undergo challenges of

inequality in the school setups. The significance of the idea of racism in schools lies in denial to

minimize discrimination to children, and the behaviors of young people and its concertation on

measures and general actions that may not entail through racial groups of people may be over

represented. The book pinpoints the part of the state and the civil society in suppressing the acts

of racial segregation. Therefore, Kitching majorly encompasses issues facing minority races such

as sexual abuse and bullying but dominantly addresses racism.

In the article, the college dean discusses how racial segregation leads to unequal chances

in education. Gregory argues that it is both more comfortable and convenient to sponsor a

student to an expensive university such as Harvard rather than discriminating against them. The

dean explores the connection between race, education, and social status, especially after slavery

in America. He further indicated that the United States' government had a role in the emergence

of racial segregation through partial funding of elementary institutions attended by the minority.

The policies led to the mushrooming and growth of public district schools, mainly attended by

the white race students.

Despite shunning and opposing racism may seem monotonous, it is significant to make

meaning steps to ensure that they are not racially segregated. The issue of fighting racism should

be globalized to ensure that it is adequately tackled. The affirmative action should also be

considered to ascertain that the minority races get their due advantage. In acknowledgment of the

several obstacles for the minority, colleges have created affirmative action to ensure the students

of color have equal opportunities to continue with higher learning.

The low results recorded by the minority groups are as a result of unfair distribution of

educational resources. For instance, typical challenges such inadequate teachers, and lack an

appropriate curriculum are responsible for the poor results recorded. The education system in the

United States is simply one of the most unfair in the developed countries. The racial segregation

has even affected the placement of interns and that indicates that the gap in the educational sector

is still overwhelming.
