back Jackson must come up with 999 dollars per the pawnshop owner order who gave him 24 hours to do

so. In the short story “What You Pawn I Will Redeem”, by Sherman Alexie, Jackson is the main character.

Jackson actions seems to in conflict with his words. This shows the conflict in the sroty on how he wants

of Native American still care about their culture as in Jackon wants to have his grandmother’s

regalia back so that it reminds him of his background and his culture. This resource also talked

about how Native American is addicted to alcohol and Jackson is the evidence. He values his

COMPARISON OF EARLY ADOLESCENT BEHAVIORAL HEALTH RISKS AMONG

URBAN AMERICAN INDIANS/ALASKA NATIVES AND THEIR PEERS. American

Indian & Alaska Native Mental Health Research: The Journal Of The National Center,

According to Kelly Serafini and Dennis Donovan studied Native American teenagers in urban

settings suffers from high rate of mental health issue casue by disccimination the face and

depression. Because of such these yound adults engage in illicit use of alcohol, tobacco and

drugs.. Approximately 70% of Native American who lives outside tribal reservations get less

support from faamilies and also then to have less social suppot social that lead them to become

alcoholic in urban settings. This information supports my thesis because it addresses the problem

that Jackson has when Alexie’s mention about this character at the beginning of the story

“fathered two or three kids, and then went crazy. Of course, crazy is not the official definition of

my mental problem”. This fact proves that not only Jackson but many other Native American

diagnosed with mental health because of the changes in their lifestyle. The mental health

problem leads them to become alcoholic and lose their family just as Alexie develop his

character in Jackson.
