Physiological Adaptation in Professional Nursing Practice
Q1. The priority concept of opportunity based on the performance analysis is
the physiological adaptation in professional nursing practice.
Q2. The identified concept aligns with the NCLEX-RN Test Plan definition
of physiological adaptation in the following ways: Physiological adaptation is a
process by which the body responds to changes in the environment to maintain
homeostasis. The body responds to changes in the environment by making
adjustments in the way it functions. These adjustments allow the body to maintain
a state of equilibrium or balance (Hall & Hall, 2020, p. 13). Secondly,
physiological adaptation is a dynamic process that occurs over time and is
influenced by internal and external factors. The internal factors influencing
physiological adaptation include the body's response to stress, the individual's
genetic makeup, and the individual's current state of health. The external factors
influencing physiological adaptation include the climate, the availability of
resources, and the individual's lifestyle choices.
Physiological adaptation is a complex process involving multiple systems
working together to maintain homeostasis. The systems involved in physiological
adaptation include the nervous system, the endocrine system, the cardiovascular
system, the respiratory system, the digestive system, the urinary system, and the
3
reproductive system. In addition, physiological adaptation occurs at different rates
and degrees in different individuals. The rate at which physiological adaptation
occurs is influenced by the individual's age, gender, and fitness level. The degree
to which physiological adaptation occurs is influenced by the individual's genetic
makeup, the severity of the stressor, and the individual's current state of health
(Chen et al., 2020, p.4163). Lastly, physiological adaptation is a lifelong process
that begins at birth and continues throughout the lifespan. The ability to adapt to
environmental changes declines with age, which is why older adults are more
susceptible to disease and death.
Q3. The two learning strategies that will support the development of the
concept of physiological adaptation are a lecture/textbook on the concept of
physiological adaptation and how it applies to professional nursing practice and a
case study/ATI on a specific example of how physiological adaptation has
occurred in a professional nursing situation. This will help students to understand
how the concept can be applied in real-world situations (Pulido-Criollo et al., 2018,
p. 33).
Q4. The two resources that will support the development of this concept are
a textbook on human physiology that includes a section on physiological
adaptation and a journal article on physiological adaptation in professional nursing
practice. The textbook on human physiology will provide students with a
4
comprehensive understanding of physiological adaptation. The journal article on
physiological adaptation in professional nursing practice will give students an in-
depth understanding of how the concept applies to professional nursing practice.
