I. Introduction to the Company

A. Brief History of Company

James A Leach Aquatic & Recreation Center is in Raeford, NC. The building is a two-

story, 53,000 square feet. The interior space features a Natatorium and Gymnasium, 6

multi-purpose rooms, (two of which are adjacent to the swimming pools for use as party

rooms), a concession stand, locker rooms, and offices for the Hoke County Parks and

Recreation Department. The Natatorium space houses a 7-lane, a 75-yard-long

competition swimming pool, and a separate recreation pool featuring a zero-entry ramp,

spray features, and two exercise swimming lanes. The most exciting piece is the water

slide that juts out of the facility and back into the pool area. A second-floor accessible

spectator seating area provides individual seats for 200.

The Gymnasium contains a single, high-school regulation basketball court and two

smaller cross-courts. The floor space can be converted for other sports such as volleyball

and gymnastics. Telescoping bleachers provide seating space for 650 spectators. Above

the gym floor is a 9’-0” wide walking/jogging track.

B. Company’s Mission and Vision Statements

To promote quality recreation opportunities for all citizens of the greater Hoke County

area by providing indoor and outdoor facilities and activities and to be a resource for

those who seek to improve their quality of life through recreation.

The vision for the Recreation Department is to be the natural leader in promoting

community health and well-being through fun, progressive and memorable parks and

recreation experiences and activities for everyone by: Providing safe, well-designed and

maintained facilities Providing broad-based programs and services Maximizing

community resources.

C. Company product and Service

Hoke County Parks and Recreation services are designed for school age kids and to

support adult leagues. Hoke County Parks and Recreation Center provides a variety of

athletics and programs for children including Baseball, Softball, Soccer, Football, and

Summer Camp. We also hold various events for the community, such as the Autism

Walk, Color Run, and Breakfast with Santa. In addition, Parks and Recreation offers

community buildings and park rentals for special family or business services include, but

are not limited to, the following:

• James A. Leach Aquatic & Recreation center is state of the art with regulation fields such as football, basketball, and baseball.

• James A. Leach Aquatic & Recreation center also has a qualified sports director, field supervisors and event coordinator.

• Arranges programs that will involve the adolescent’s family and their support network.

II. Pre-Internship Expectations

A. Job Duties/Task • Planning and Organizing activity program under the supervision of a

supervisor/director.

• Setting up activity equipment such as tables, chairs and instruments and keeping up with inventory at concussion stands.

• Maintaining Cleaning recreation equipment and facility.

• Assisting participants during activities.

• Performing administrative tasks such as answering telephone calls and filling- out paperwork and filing it.

• Attending weekly meetings with supervisor/director.

• Ensuring participants’ safety.

B. Personal Expectation My personal expectation to be able to stay in compliance with my job description with following protocols in the workspace, policies standards and regulations as well being able to adapt and adjust to change and communicating with different personality and become a leader and a trustworthy intern.

C. Goals

1. One of my personal goals is to learn everyone’s name that I will be working with in the first three days of being on the job.

2. Complete all duties/task in a timely manner to be turned in to my supervisor.

3. Showcase my skills/knowledge while here as an intern. Professional Goals

1. One day to be able to help organize and caring out recreational events, youth sports.

2. To be able to motivate and encourage all student athletes to do their best at practices and during games.

3. All to be able to help with stats referee youth games and be responsible for all fields and equipment.
