Leadership Analysis

Executive Summary

The concept of leadership is an aspect of any institution that plays a critical role in

determining the direction that the organization would take. It is therefore prudent to ensure that

any level of leadership in an organization takes into account various forms of concepts and

strategies that are meant to ensure that an organization achieves its set goals and objectives.

Leadership has also been proven to consists of various aspects. One of the aspects of leadership

is that of ethical leadership. Ethical leadership can be defined to mean that individuals who

occupy leadership positions are supposed to behave in accordance with a number of set rules and

principles that are recognized by the majority of individuals in that organization as a sound basis

for the common good of the organization which would be tasked with ensuring that the problems

relating to employees are handled in a proper manner.

Leadership Analysis paper#4 4

Introduction

Ethical leadership entails different forms of aspects. Some of the aspects include: respect

for all individuals including the juniors in the organization, trusting each and every individual in

the organization, promoting the aspects of fairness, transparency and honesty in the organization.

These aspects of leadership can therefore lead to the conclusion that the aspects of ethical

leadership are part of a broader conclusion that leadership is a conscious decision. The other

aspect of leadership is the aspect of conflict management (Lussier and Achua 2007). The aspect

of conflict management remains as topic as it is relevant in the sense that every organization

faces the challenge of handling numerous types of conflicts ranging from the conflicts between

the managerial staff and junior workers as well as the junior workers themselves. It is therefore

prudent for the leadership of an organization to come up with mechanisms that ensure the aspect

of conflicts is managed in their respective institutions. One of the mechanisms that can be used

in managing conflicts in an organization is through the formation of a disciplinary committee.

Therefore, the various aspects leadership need to be taken into consideration in order to ensure

that an organization achieves its strategic plan and goals.

Ethical Leadership

Various scholars have come up with definitions and aspects that usually relate to the aspects of

ethical leadership. One of the most known scholars is Gebler. He came up with various levels

that have played critical in shaping and determining the aspect of ethical leadership that

organizations need to adhere to in achieving their strategic goals and plans. One of the levels that

he regards as the most important is that of financial stability. The nexus of a successful

organization and proper financial management can be equated to a percentage of close to 100%.

The rationale behind this is that very many organizations have crumpled because of poor

financial management practices. Some of the examples of such practices include; poor book

keeping which can eventually lead to the loss of funds that would ultimately affect the

enhancement of projects associated with the organization (Gebler 2006). It is therefore prudent

that the managerial staff of the organization come up with mechanisms that enhance financial

stability.

The second level is that of communication. This level is important in the sense that the

moment leaders effectively communicate with the rest of the organization, the success of the

organization would be much evident. The third level is that of accountability. Accountability is a

broad aspect that not only affects the financial department but it also affects the other

departments of the organization. It is therefore important that the leadership of an organization

takes into account these aspects in facilitating the enhancement of accountability across all

departments of the organization.

The fourth level is that of ensuring that the organization is endowed with systems and processes

that are working. The rationale behind this is that most organizations usually lack the ability to

meet the requisite threshold that is required in facilitating the enhancement of processes involved

in the organization. The fifth level that Gebler teds to make emphasis on is that of sustainability.

The aspects of sustainability play a critical role in the sense that an organization needs to devise

various means that are meant to help it achieve sustainability. Through this approach, the

organization would be better placed in achieving its millennial goals.

Conflict Management

The aspect of conflict management remains as topic as it is relevant in the sense that every

organization faces the challenge of handling numerous types of conflicts ranging from the

conflicts between the managerial staff and junior workers as well as the junior workers

themselves. It is therefore prudent for the leadership of an organization to come up with

mechanisms that ensure the aspect of conflicts is managed in their respective institutions.

One of the mechanisms that can be used in managing conflicts in an organization is

through the formation of a disciplinary committee. It is therefore prudent for the various levels of

leadership in an organization to take into consideration the various forms of conflict management

in order to ensure that an organization achieves its strategic plan and goals. One of the ways in

which this can be achieved is through the use of force (Jacobs 2020). The rationale behind this is

that the moment workers are compelled to work together, they usually develop some sense of

teamwork which is essential in facilitating the progress of an organization. The second

mechanisms through which a leader can solve conflicts is by accommodating individuals in the

organization. This would mean that the moment individuals engage in conflicts the leader

accommodates all of them.

The third mechanism that a leader should engage in with the aim of managing conflicts in the

organization is through collaboration or problem solving. The aspect of collaboration can be

effective in the sense that workers who are in conflict are made to work together in order to solve

the differences between them. Finally, the aspect of avoiding individuals plays a critical role in

conflict management. The rationale behind this is that the moment avoidance is practiced,

tension in the organization reduces hence facilitating the management of conflicts.

Strategic Planning

The aspects of strategic planning are also an aspect that leadership can be effectively

practiced from. Strategic planning involves various aspects such as environment scanning which

is a critical aspect in the sense that before an organization engages in anything, they should

ensure that the environment around there is in a proper condition to facilitate the enhancement of

the company’s activities (Moynihan and Taylor 2002). The second aspect of strategic planning is

that of supporting goals and objectives and this is effective in the sense that leaders should be at

the fore front in supporting the objectives and goals that an organization engages in. This

approach will grant individuals the requisite morale in facilitating the objectives of the

organization.

Power and Politics

Power and politics play a critical role in determining whether the concept of leadership

can be achieved by an organization or not. There are five different types of power. These

include; reward, legitimate, referent, coercive and expert. The form of leadership that has had the

greatest effect on the success of my leader is that of reward. The rationale behind this is that the

moment a leader appreciates the aspect of reward, then the organization would eventually

succeed.
