Animal Testing for Cosmetics
Because of how the makeup industry have grown and every famous person wants to have their own makeup line, All around the world, each year, over 100 million animals are abused and burned, to be specific, in the United States labs. Brands torture thousands of animals for their own profits without consideration. Animals are being held captive against their will and dying in an inhumane way just for the sake of and eye shadow or a mascara. The same hands that are beautifying faces are the same hands that are poising animals. There are many reasons to stop animal testing for cosmetics, the importance of stopping animal cruelty is to raise awareness about how unsafe those tests are, the fact that animals react differently than humans, alternative methods will cost less than animal tests and saves a lot of animals.
The main reason to stop animal testing is the importance of raising awareness about stopping animal cruelty. Animals used in experiments are usually being forced to eat and inhale chemicals. Most of the time, the circumstances the animals are in to be tested on is very harsh and cruel. Rabbits are in a disabled situation to run away, where the inhumane companies open their eyelids by force, using clips for many days so that they don’t close their eyes while being tested. A lot of the animals are caged without food and water for days, their bodies and faces filled with injuries, burns and infections. In addition to that, many animals are killed right after they are done using them. It is very important to raise awareness about the torture these innocent animals are going through.
The second main reason to stop animal testing is the fact that animals react differently than humans. What a lot of these scientists don’t realize is that humans are not 80 kg rabbits. There are many differences in the structure, organs and skin types of the humans in which, the products that are being tested on animals aren’t very safe for humans. Statistics show, that animal testing failure rates to 90%.
The third reason is that a lot of animals are getting extinct and there will be less species around the world. There is a diverse of 100 million animal species and between 10,000 and 100,000 are being extinct. If experiment labs keep on taking animals to test on, very soon our beautiful world would not have many beautiful creatures to live among us.
Many cosmetic brands believe that they have to test their products on animals so that they will not harm humans. The reason for that is because they do not want clients to sue the brand’s products when it reacts negatively towards their skin. However, brands should invest their money in alternatives such as stem cell technology which is a more reliable substance that reacts like human skin to test the products on. Stem cells are categorized into various types of cells that have huge potentials in treating intractable disorders, injuries and diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease (Kumar, Narayanan, Chaudhary et al., 2017)
To conclude, this is a subject that many people need to pay more attention to, a lot of people buy from brands that make animals suffer way too much, using alternatives to help decreasing the extinction of animals. That is why we have to make an intervention against them and stop buying from them until they stop this act.
