RESPOND TO ANGELA’S DISCUSSION BELOW
Technology has made communication domestically and internationally easier. Communication happens by email, internet chatting, Skype for business, and many more ways being developed yearly. Technology is evolving so quick, it is hard to keep up. Technology is allowing people to share information virtually with anyone, anywhere, anytime about anything in a continuous interactive and unrestricted manner (Dhurkari, 2017). Organizations have to find the right platform that will be most efficient. Technology makes it easier for to manage virtual teams and easier to outsource services. I can remember when I started working at my organization over 12 years ago and we were just communicating via chat, now we are using skype for business because we are not all in the same city. Email and Skype for business are the most used forms of communication in our organization. When we see each other face to face it is like meeting all over again. With the evolution of the technology, we are losing the human touch. We lose the social aspect of communicating. Technology is needed, and managers have to find ways of communicating virtually and keeping their teams engaged and morale up. Communication and coordination have such an impact on virtual teams, so leaders must do their homework and come up with the best way to manage the teams (Watkins, 2018). If organizations do not keep up with technology, they may lose some competitive advantage. With the way technology changes so quickly, organizations must have a plan to keep up and move just as quickly. There must be plans in place to coordinate change for the human capital, so they are not just thrown into the change and are able to keep up with the organizational changes. With technology changes organizations also must increase security, as we see daily there is constant danger to technology from outside sources.
