Analytical Report
Affordable Housing for Apple Employees
Submitted by Jacky Chen
Problem/Opportunity
Apple is one of the world's largest and most profitable companies, but many of its employees
struggle to find affordable housing in the areas where the company operates. Apple employees,
particularly those in the San Francisco Bay Area, face exorbitant housing costs. While Apple
offers a variety of benefits to its employees, including a housing assistance program, these
benefits may not be sufficient to address the issue of affordability.
As an Apple consultant, I will prepare a report on the feasibility of providing Apple employees
with more affordable/low-cost housing options.
Purpose and Scope
The upcoming report examines the benefits and drawbacks of providing more affordable/cheap
housing options to Apple employees. The report will look at various options, such as
collaborating with local housing authorities, developing company-owned housing developments,
or providing subsidies for employees to live in nearby areas. The report will also examine the
impact of providing more affordable/low-cost housing on Apple's recruitment and retention
efforts and the company's reputation and brand image. Additionally, the report will examine
various housing programs and policies implemented by other companies and the government.
The scope of this report will be limited to Apple's operations in the United States, with a
particular emphasis on areas where the housing affordability crisis is particularly severe, such as
the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, and Los Angeles.
Data Collection Sources and Methods
Data will be collected from various sources, including scholarly articles, news articles,
interviews with Apple employees, and data from the United States Census Bureau and other
relevant organizations. Data collection tools will include online searches, surveys, and
interviews. The data will then be analyzed using various quantitative and qualitative techniques,
such as descriptive statistics and content analysis.
Background
Apple is a multinational technology company with its headquarters in Cupertino, California, and
an employee capacity of about 100,000 people worldwide. In the past, the company has been
criticized for its impact on the Bay Area housing market, as the influx of high-paying tech
workers has contributed to rising housing costs and gentrification. Apple currently provides
housing assistance to its employees through grants and loans for home purchases and rentals.
However, these benefits may not be sufficient to address the issue of employee affordability for
all employees.
Audience Analysis
The report will be prepared for Apple's executive leadership team and board of directors. The
report will provide an unbiased analysis of the feasibility of providing employees with more
affordable/low-cost housing options, including a discussion of the potential costs and benefits of
various approaches.
