Amazon Company

Philosophy, Mission, and Goal

Amazon’s mission is “to be the Earth’s most customer-centric company.” In April 2021, they added two visions to this mission: to be “Earth’s best employer” and “Earth’s safest place to work.” Customers have been the driving force behind Amazon's success since its founding. " We will continue to focus relentlessly on our customers," Jeff Bezos writes in his first shareholder letter in 1997. "Customer obsession" is still at the top of Amazon's values list today. Customers are at the heart of Amazon's business model. Two of Amazon's most important innovations are customer reviews and two-day Prime shipping. For now, it is unclear if Amazon can successfully balance its customer-centric mission with its newer promises to become the best employer on Earth and the safest workplace on the planet. While discussing Amazon's two vision statements, we will get into this tension further. But before we get into the practical details, let us clear up a misconception about Amazon's mission statement. Amazon's philosophy is guided by four critical principles, including the focus and obsession on the customer interests instead of its competitors. The second principle is that Amazon has developed a culture and passion for innovation that makes it possible for the company to excel. The other two principles are committed to operational excellence and long-term thinking.

Values

Amazon is steered by four pillars: consumer obsession instead of rival company focus, enthusiasm for innovation, dedication to continuous improvement, and lengthy reasoning. Customers are at the heart of everything Amazon does, and the company wants to be the best employer and the safest place to work on the planet. The other core values are stated below:

Result Oriented: Like any other business, Amazon has high expectations for its employees. Direct sales, product or service enhancements, or back-office efficiency improvements are all examples of how each employee can add significant value through their work by focusing on three key aspects: quality, timeliness, and investment. No matter how terrible things become, the milestones will still be met, and no one will accept excuses.

Taking Ownership: Businesses are beginning to think outside of the "silo" mentality that constricts their sphere of impact. Every Amazon employee is expected to own the entire business, not simply the tasks given to a particular team. Employees should consider how their actions will impact the overall company and ensure they add value over the long run rather than simply a quick boost.

Innovative and Simple: All Amazon employees are expected to think beyond the box to succeed. The organization is always on the lookout for people who are not afraid to take risks, come up with novel solutions, and draw inspiration from a wide variety of sources. Even more important than that is ensuring this innovation is easy to grasp and implement. Even if the goal or road seems impossible, employees should commit and make their ambitions a reality. A simple but powerful idea always beats a complicated plan.

Curious and Ready to Learn: Numerous sources can serve as sources of inspiration and ideas. Lifelong learners are expected of Amazon employees. Just because someone has the expertise, training, or certifications in a certain field does not mean they should focus their entire career in that field. Additionally, they should continue learning about emerging sector trends rather than relying too much on their current knowledge base. They should always be on the lookout for potential intersections between their current knowledge, their challenges, and their new discoveries.

Integrity: The employees in Amazon Company are working ethically where they focus on serving its customers' interests, offering the best products and services, and applying the right and ethical business processes.

Compliance: Amazon is a company that adheres to all the laws and regulations of the government in place.

Mutual Respect: Amazon has mutual respect with other competitors in the industry where they engage in healthy competition. The employees and other stakeholders cooperate together due to the respect developed with each other.

Protect High Standards: There is no other standard to which we should aspire but to perfection. In order to meet Amazon's standards of excellence, only the best products, the best services, and the best customer service will be accepted. Outsiders may find these requirements unreasonable, but all Amazon employees agree to them when applying for company employees. Errors or accidents always lead to positive learning experience, so they are dealt with as quickly as possible.

Primed for Growth

Amazon is a company that is primed for growth since the company is applying the best sales and positioning strategies in the industry. The key strategies that it adopts in growing revenue include:

New Products: Amazon is introducing other product lines on its platforms that contribute to more revenue generation, and expanding its portfolio makes the company more competitive in the industry.

Improve Employees Loyalty: The Amazon management relates will with employees, and this relation is transferred to the customers that benefit from good connections and quality services.

Retail Performance Projects: Retail on Amazon's website. Amazon.com. Amazon's retail operation is mostly based on online sales. Customers can read product reviews and ratings before purchasing the online purchasing platform.

Strategic Pillars

In the alignment of Amazon Company’s philosophy, mission, and goal, the company has the following pillars:

Customer Centricity: Amazon is determined to address the interest of its customers.

Continuous Optimization: Amazon focuses on continuous improvement and upgrades in service delivery to clients.

Innovation Culture: Amazon has developed a culture of developing ideas that improve the firm's operations.

Corporate Agility: Amazon has successfully rebranded and adapted to industry changes to remain competitive.

HUMAN RESOURCE OVERVIEW

Mission, Vision, and Goal

This long-term commitment to becoming the world's most customer-centric corporation is Amazon's primary goal. With these goals in mind, Amazon has implemented general and interactive tactics to ensure that customers get the best value for their money, have the most extensive assortment of products to choose from, and get the lowest price without sacrificing product quality or safety. Additionally, Amazon's dedication to enhancing its innovative foundation by spending extensively on technology and innovation as well as R&D is bolstering these strategies.

Role

Human resources specialists collaborate closely with the company's divisional and team leaders as strategic business partners and valued consultants. The Amazon partnership is nurtured by the following:

Human Resource Expertise: Expertise in remuneration, benefits, employment legislation and regulations, performance evaluation, training, planning, and employee engagement are just a few of the areas in which Human Resources team members are well versed.

Internal Consultation: Human Resources Administrators serve as internal consultants, making recommendations that meet the business's needs. All encounters with business leaders reflect a prominent level of business acumen. Amazon handles this in a more memorable way, which has led to having a competent team.

Operational Excellence: In terms of both individual and collective performance, the Human Resources division outperforms expectations. For transparency and growth, KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) are developed.

Compliance: Policies and processes conform to federal, state, and municipal regulations.

We undertake frequent Human Resources audits and keep records for the duration of the retention policy.

Vision: The future of Human Resources is set out by the department's leaders. The division's vision is clearly communicated to all members of the Human Resources department. Objectives for the short term are in line with the long-term vision and are not constrained by the limitations of previous experience.

Managing Results through Objectives

WORKFORCE PLANNING & ALIGNMENT STRATEGIC GOAL #1: Improve the quality of hire

Objective 1.1: Evaluation of the Effectiveness and Efficiency of the Current Hiring Process

The hiring process in Amazon is known to take 3 months period, and this has existed for a long, and the target is to improve the efficiency of the process and have staff hired in a brief period and ensure they meet the standard and competence needed. Amazon must consider adopting the online hiring process, especially developing a competent online pool of applicants, which helps reduce the number of competent employees required.

Objective 1.2: Use of Structured Interviews

Pratap (2019) claims that there is a strong commercial justification for structured interviews. Such interviews guarantee that all applicants are asked similar questions regarding a particular position. Therefore, the recruitment process depends on interviews. Now, Amazon Company’s recruiting personnel do not structure interviews with the Human resources department. An alliance can protect the company from prejudice in hiring.

Objective 1.3: Improving Onboarding Process

A company's ability to recruit and retain top employees is directly tied to its onboarding process (Meinert, 2016). Amazon Company needs to build an employment brand that clearly communicates the value proposition to prospective employees. The onboarding that is necessary and best for Amazon includes conducting interviews

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS STRATEGIC GOAL #2: Incentivize tactical goal achievement

Objective 2.1: Evaluate Impact of Current Incentives on Results

Employees on a salaried basis are presently eligible for yearly incentives based on Amazon's profitability and performance. Amazon targets to offer a competitive wage that is paid weekly. Business leaders from each of the company's eight divisions must participate in the examination of the present incentive programs. There is overtime that occurs for more than 40 hours. There is a need to incorporate financial counseling for the executive management and employees.

Objective 2.2: Bonus Plan Restructure for Tactical Goal Achievement

It offers five suggestions for improving bonus schemes to improve short-term company outcomes: Metric-based performance reviews, bonus requirements that must be met, not rewarding workers who perform below standards, incentivized plan education, and required rationale for bonuses. Using this method, the HR team will reorganize the salary bonus plan to encourage the attainment of tactical objectives.

TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIC GOAL #3: Improve the overall effectiveness of training and development programs

Objective 3.1: Hiring and Training Department

The department's current organizational structure cannot meet the firm's expanding training and development demands. The Human Resource department will undergo reorganization to better synchronize its resources with the firm's rapid expansion goal. The expansion requires good executive management and human resource that ensures that employees are trained and acquire enough skills that help in addressing the changes experienced in the organization.

Objective 3.2: Investment in Training and Development Programs

The quality assurance staff that advises the executive management and the HR conducts an assessment and evaluation of the needs of the Amazon Company and highlights the missing skills and expertise and uses the gaps in developing the curriculum to be used in training. On the other hand, the executive management uses the report to allocate the funds for the education and training process for the success of Amazon Company.

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT STRATEGIC GOAL #4: Improve efficiency and effectiveness of performance management systems

Objective 4.1: Evaluation of Existing Performance Management Systems

Assessing the success of an organization's strategies, tracking its progress toward its goals, and providing feedback are the primary goals of performance evaluations, which are conducted regularly. To make better decisions and streamline operations, the results of assessments are used as a source of information. Depending on the business model, different companies use different systems to measure performance. Amazon has been experiencing challenges with shipping where the sellers find it difficult to decide on the shipping options. Evaluating the challenges of shipping options assists in making informed decisions concerning the best shipping technique appropriate for all the sellers.

Objective 4.2: Improving Existing Performance Management System

Amazon should invest more resources in performance management to ensure that the shipping processes operate effectively. In addition, there is the need to consider putting effort into involving the sellers and clients in the shipping options and using their feedback in making decisions. Investing in good delivery and shipping methods makes it effective for Amazon in ensuring that ordered goods reach the customers on time. Competitive advantage will be developed by considering the issue of shipping, which makes it simple for the sellers to understand how to reach customers.

EMPLOYEE RELATION’S STRATEGIC GOAL #6: Develop and introduce a diversity and inclusion initiative

Objective 5.1 Develop a Diversity and Inclusion Initiative

People from all levels of society are critical to Amazon's ability to innovate on behalf of our customers. We feel that creating a friendly and inclusive work environment is critical to the success of our employees and the firm. To create a welcoming and inclusive workplace, we actively recruit people from a variety of backgrounds. We take measures to ensure that our employees feel like they belong, are valued, and have the opportunity to gain experience.

Discussion

A key goal for the Amazon Company would be to focus on customer satisfaction metrics across all its divisions. Consider the company's cash flow as another way to measure performance. Amazon competes against a slew of other online and brick-and-mortar businesses vying for a piece of the retail pie. As a result, cash flow is a better performance indicator than earnings. An increase in cash flow indicates that the company's items are selling quickly, and so its performance is excellent. In addition, high demand for products and services leads to a large cash flow and a robust business performance. It is also possible to determine how each division of a corporation is progressing toward its goals (Chalmers, 2018). For example, the marketing and administrative divisions may be evaluated to see how far they have come. Market share and sales growth, inventory levels, and product quality are all relevant in marketing, whereas personnel happiness and turnover are relevant in the administrative division. Poor performance would be evidenced by a high staff turnover rate and low levels of employee satisfaction.
