Wanted to voice my opinion in support of proposition 119

Proposition 119
Proposition 119 would raise state sales taxes on recreational marijuana from 15 to 20%
Would create Colorado learning authority to “certify tutors and enrichment programs as eligible for funding and distribute money to families” (birkeland, 2021)
What did I learn

Direct democracy
“occurs when policy questions go directly to voters for a decision (krutz, 2017, p. 275)
Propositions or initiatives are a form of direct democracy
They are “a law or constitutional amendment proposed and passed by citizens of a state” (krutz, 2017, p. 276)
Civic engagement
Contact with the government to achieve things you want
“can increase the power of ordinary people to influence government actions” (krutz, 2017, p. 21)
Other examples: join a political rally, vote in an election, attend a town hall meeting
accessibility
Everyone can participate in government in some way
Most avenues of interaction are simple
Results can be disappointing
