Greek Artifacts
Ancient Greece has contributed a lot to the impact of cultures in the history of the world. This is attribute because Greece is considered as the most of the world’s civilization. The Greeks contributed a lot too; mythology, forms of art, political innovations amongst other great works. Throughout history, the artwork has been preserved and this has made the artifacts to be exhibited in museums that are well known all over the world. This article will look at some of the greatest artifacts that have their base from Greece (Ferrari,56).
i) Antikythera Mechanism
This is no doubt one of the most fascinating and even important artifacts from the country of Greece. This artifact is symbolized by the mechanism of an old computer that is analog. It was made by a scientist from Greece for the calendric and the purposes of astronomy. This artifact got discovered around 1901.Upon being considered for a lot of research, the artifact was found to have been built in the 2nd Century Before Christ. This artifact is found in the National Archaeological Museums in Athens (Roby,44).
ii) Aphrodite of Melos
This is an artwork that got its name from the French. The artwork is said to have been got from a broken statue in the cavern at the Island of Melos. This artifact is also known as Venus of Milo Sculpture. It is said that Aphrodite was the name that was charged with the goddess for Love and the Roman equivalent was the Venus (Ferrari,60). This artifact is shaped in the way of a feminine and it does not have arms but one of the arms can be seen a little bit. This artifact can be found in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
iii) Hecate
This name was provided to the goddess of Greek trinity and it was said that the goddess was to rule the earth, heaven and even in the underworld. The goddess is widely based on the terms of deity and in this time in terms of the Egyptian one. The name given is said to be Hekat.The Trinity is said to have comprised Hecate Selene, Artemis the goddess of hunting, Persephone the destroyer in the underworld, moon in the heart. This artifact is easily seen in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the city of New York. The statute is well illustrated and it comprises three objects. The objects are shaped in the shapes of women. There are three of them. One is widely seen whereas the others are not that well seen. This artifact is said to be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art at the city of New York (Roby,66).
iv) Pan Statue
Pan is said to have been the underdog in the Greek deities, more so because of the appearance that was distorted of the half man nature, physical traits that were of half goat. Just like in the case of Dionysus, Pan is said to have the associations with hedonism in all the kinds and due to the fact that it was called Pan. That is a Greek word that stood for ‘all’. This artifact is said to have been built in the 3rd Century Before Christ. The artifact can be well seen from the National Archaeological Museum in the city of Athens.
V) Wild Goat Style jug
This is pottery work that has the decorations in the way of ‘wild goat style’. This pot is said to be covered in the cream slip and it is decorated in ‘black glaze’. In the shoulder, there is palmette or even fan in the 7 leaves which have spirals and they are filled with a lot of lozenges together with triangles. This pot is said to have been made in the country of Caria that is currently called Turkey. The period is said to be around 575-550 BC and it is compared to Bachum Painter (Roby,70). This pot going by the names ‘Wild Goat; was very popular and it was sold in the areas of ancient Greek during the period of archaic. As much as the Persian were in many conflicts with the Greeks, it is said that the Greek influence was too much to the work of pottery during those times. This artifact is in many museums in Greece and even in Turkey
Summary of the Artifacts
As seen in most of the artifacts that have been talked above, they are of importance to the Greek world and even the world population. This is because they contributed a lot to the civilization that exists in the world today. A lot of the artifacts get their symbolism from the various goddess in the country. That means that the majority of the artifacts have the influence of a spiritual feeling as a result of their associations with the religious effects. There is also the effect of external factors as the artifacts are said to have some influence from external countries as seen from Turkey together with France as the artifact's description show that (Ferrari,56).
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is great to conclude that the artifacts have a lot of impacts in the civilization that exists today. This goes to show that the artifacts that are being today get their influence from these old artifacts. The people that contributed to these artifacts should be congratulated a lot. After all, Greece remains important for having contributed to the way art is today.
