Is Google Making Us Stupid
The writer of this particular article is Nicholas Carr, it is crystal clear that the writer has been able to reach out to his target audience. This can be proved by the fact that he has been able to use a number of stylistic devices, for instance the use of direct speech. The use of direct speech in this instance makes the audience feel like he or she is a part of that particular conversation.
Moreover, the author has also been able to apply a number of stylistic devices, the use of these devices have made this particular piece not to appear as being plane . For instance the use of allegory from the movie ‘2001’ has helped to present ideas via this movie. Additionally, he has been able to arrange his content in a manner that shows well developed English writing skills. The author of this article pus it clear that he spends most of his time on the internet. This aspect of being on the internet over long periods of time has made him loose control over himself and any time he is not on the internet he feels uncomfortable. Therefore, the main idea presented on this article is on whether people have become over independent when it comes to the use of the internet.
Before the internet was invented people used to access information using the old fashioned way, during these particular periods of time people could visit libraries and they would spend a considerable amount of time looking for information. In some instances, this could even have taken days, weeks and months. However, with the invention of the internet people know started accessing information via the internet. With time, people became over-independent on the use of the internet to a point where no one wills to visit a library. This particular aspect shows that the use of internet.
From this particular article, the writer clearly indicates that people have lost interest on reading and they only skim readings in order to attain only a small portion of information. This aspect of skimming has been due to the use of internet where one can be able to access information of any particular size . I concur with the writer when he says that the human brain needs to be trained to read. This is because training it to read helps the brain to develop the ability of capturing and storing information (Anon, 2018).
From this article, it is clear that google has made people stupid to a point where people believe that their brain capacity can be improved through the aspect of artificial intelligence. I believe that we have a brain capacity that can hold enough information that we may need; however, supplementing our brains artificially means that we have lost touch with reality.
Moreover, I believe that the writer has a point when he says that the impact of the internet does not end on the computer screen, rather this impact is also posted on our brains. This means that any time we need a piece of information we just rush to the internet. In conclusion, I believe that the author of this article has been able to reach the targeted audience. Moreover, the author has shown outstanding writing skills by integrating the various stylistic devices used in the English language. Moreover , the author has also been able to address the subject of the article in a well –thought manner leaving the audience to take their own stand either to support the ideas of the writer or not. In conclusion I believe that this article has been successful in conveying its intended message.
