Aligning Standards and Learning Objectives
Part 1: Lesson Plan Analysis
The Academic standard
The academic standard of the COE lesson plan is relating information learnt to images representing the content learnt.
The learning objective
The objective of the lesson is to help learners to be able to identify states on a map.
How standard and objective are aligned
The standard and the objective of the lesson are aligned. The activities of the lesson and the assessments match up to enhance learning of the students. This way, learners will be able to achieve the academic standard of the lesson and the instructor will be able to accurately assess whether students are learning or not. The lesson plan is also adapted to accomplish the objective of the learning outcomes of the academic standard. The learning objective is broken down into small simple tasks that work towards the overall lesson objective. The instructor also incorporated community and culture into the lesson plan created.
What is the lesson about? What does this lesson cover?
This lesson covers the ability recall information taught in class about the shapes, location and size of the 50 states of the United States. The students should be able to accurately label all state names.
Effectiveness of assessments in measuring academic standard and learning objective
The assessments are effective in measuring the academic standard and learning objective of the lesson because they are aligned with the objectives of the lesson. The assessment is differentiated to assess the learning for different groups of learners especially the early finishers, students with special learning needs and gifted students. The assessment method also demonstrates strong application of manifold measurement methods to support the triangulation of assessment data. The assessment also demonstrates strong use of feedback to facilitate the improvement of learning and teaching towards objectives of the lesson
Part 2: Unwrapping the Standards

Grade Level: K State Learning Standard: Creating simple diagrams to explain the domesticated animals.
|
|
KNOW Objective This is what students NEED TO KNOW Students should be able to mention and identify the domesticated animals. The students should be provided with the pictures of domesticated animals displayed on the whiteboard by a projector to help those who don’t know them to identify . |
|
UNDERSTAND Objective This is what students NEED TO UNDERSTAND Students need to understand the difference between the domesticated animals and wild animals. A clear definition should be outlined between animals and pets as students may assume animals are same as pets. Therefore, I would explain the difference between animals and pets and give a well-drawn diagram of the pets and domesticated animals. Apparently, students should understand only pencils are used in diagrams and the drawing sketches should be neat. |
|
DO Objective This is what students NEED TO BE ABLE TO DO Students need to be able to identify domestic animals and draw them efficiently. In addition, students should be able to produce clean and neat sketches of the exercise. Every student should do his or her own work efficiently without copying from others. Learners should also be able to recall what they have learnt in that lesson before the start of a new topic in the next class. |
|
Lesson Summary: In a few sentences, summarize this lesson. On this lesson about arts, the students were able to learn about the tamed animals and draw neat sketches. The learners managed to pass the texts on drawing and every student was very active and concentrative during the learning sessions. Despite some students faced some difficulties in presenting accurate drawings in class they were able to be assisted by their fellow students until they made it to perfection. I also provided the students with electronically printed items where they were able to learn more of other drawings. Moreover, I gave the students some homework which will help them understand better and keep practicing for the best. |
