The elderly people are the most affected population in this country. Aging-related problems such as, Diabetes, arthritis, mental health and different types of cancer are some of the health issues facing the elderly when it comes to living a longer life. Living longer comes with its troubles, not only to the families and society but to the older people as well. Staying for additional years is a chance to pursue activities with good opportunities including the advancement of technology (Wang, et al, 2020). However, aging is associated with cellular and molecular damage leading to a decrease in capacity on physical and mental states. According to the Department of Elderly People (2020), the health risk vulnerability of the elderly is high at this stage. Diabetes will be discussed as there is high prevalence amongst the elderly population. Diabetes is a result of long-term effects from resistance to insulin and impaired functioning of the pancreases. The elderly tends to experience some complex health problems as they are usually connected with other issues and are hardly singled out. These can be delirium, falls, and incontinence of urinary and associative ulcers. Comment by Dr. Loftus: Punctuation (Wang, et al., 2020) Comment by Dr. Loftus: (year) is missing Comment by Dr. Loftus: Alexander – at this point I can see that the specific health issue is diabetes and the vulnerable population is the elderly – GREAT!

Various factors are resulting in elderly diseases; some are related to genetics, and in some areas the results of the social and physical environment. Maintaining health behaviors has a great impact on the environment. Not eating a balanced diet could be a result if some diseases because an inadequate intake of nutrients required by the body will lower immunity (Martin, A., & Manley, K., 2018). Diabetes is a result of long-term effects from the resistance of insulin and impaired functioning of the pancreas. In this context, we are going to discuss the health outcomes for a specific issue in a target population, the role of the inter-professional team for improvements for this issue, and evaluating evidence and positions that would support a team approach in improving this issue. Comment by Dr. Loftus: Good information! But this needs to be cited or supported by evidence.

Position for Elderly with Diabetes

Elderly people with diabetes are very common in the U.S. rural areas. Thanks to the advance of technology and treatments, solutions have been found that allow them to live their normal lives. This of course will affect their mental health and general physical fitness. According to this problem, my position is that the elderly people suffering from diabetes should stick to the insulin medication which might be the best for treatment and care of the diabetic patient. Comment by Dr. Loftus: Ok. Great!

The role of inter-professional team in facilitating outcome improvements

The inter-professional team is looking forward to providing efficient, quality, and improved care for elderly health. For the elderly population, a team approach is important (Martinet al, 2018). Corporations of the medical administration and the professional's affiliates will work towards the success of quality health service to treating diabetes in the elderly population. The research has shown a health improvement on the elderly when the inter-professional team is involved. However, the elderly might not be willing to participate in health engagement because of the increased rate of dementia as the age advances. An inter-professional team needs to be effective so that the patient will not hesitate to undergo the process. Administering services in healthcare needs frequent focus, as well as medication adherence to the prescribed treatments. Paying attention to the prescription given by the physicians will be essential to manage the patient’s personal condition. This responsibility should be delegated to the family and caregiver of an elderly person with diabetes. The inter-professional team is needed to be able to follow up with him so that prescribed medications are strictly followed, and frequent mental health therapies are performed appropriately. Home testing kits will be given by the physician so that he can prescribe his patients, and their blood glucose can be monitored.

Evaluating evidence of others that could support team approach

Research shows that the effect of diabetes is mostly common in the elderly population and this tells us that the condition should be dealt with accordingly when it comes to the older generation. Therefore according to the research, there should be a campaign of the creation of awareness of the existence of the condition known as diabetes which has no cure. This awareness campaign will really impact the knowledge of the people and it will help them in knowing how to stay safe from diabetes (Lewin et al 2018). We shall come up with good educational materials for exercise, healthy food types and much more precautionary measures to resist diabetes. Secondly, the awareness team will consist of some healthcare professionals on matters to do with diabetes that will be delivering presentations on how to live with the condition without any complication and on how to avoid the condition from attacking people further. The second evidence can be used by the interprofessional team. These healthcare providers can also come up together to fight against diabetes and this is possible by providing necessary materials for the patients suffering from the condition. Other than that, they can ensure that all patients at certain age should be screened regularly so that any diabetic content that might be looming in the body be dealt with before its maturity stage. Lastly, the advocacy of the campaign will also assist those living with the condition, teaching them precautionary measures and how to adhere to treatment.

Evaluate the evidence and positions of others that are contrary

On the other hand of the opposing studies, some evidences show that it is by high chance that when the parents or the diabetes problem is in the genetic lineage of a person, the probability of the person having the condition is very high (Taylor et al., 2010). However, with proper education and maintenance of basic health concerning diabetes precautions, one can escape the issue of diabetes even though it might be in the family genetic lineage. There are opposing treatments to diabetes besides the ability to inject insulin. There are many nutritional experts that manage their patient’s diabetes through proper diet choices and lifestyle changes. A diabetes diet simply means eating the healthiest foods in moderate amounts and sticking to regular mealtimes. A diabetes diet is a healthy-eating plan that's naturally rich in nutrients and low in fat and calories. Key elements are fruits, vegetables and whole grains. In fact, a diabetes diet is the best eating plan for most everyone (Mayo Clinic, 2020). Comment by Dr. Loftus: yes. But this is not opposing evidence to your position of adhering a medication regime. What might be some other approaches to this? This can be aspects such as diabetic counseling or nutritional therapy – anything different from adhering to medication. Also, your paper needs a conclusion section to summarize key concepts. Comment by Ruche, Alexander:

In conclusion, diabetes is a dangerous condition as seen with our case example and if not taken care of well, it can also lead to some other complications like depression, stigma and many other problems. Although the diabetes diagnosis is similar in every individual, it can be treated differently depending on the severity of the case. Patients that decide to take a more holistic approach have the opportunity to change their eating habits and exercise with a nutritionists or doctor’s plan. For others, they have the option of sticking to a stringent glucose monitoring system. Also, for some patients both of the above treatments will be used simultaneously to achieve safe glucose levels allowing prevention of disease processes. No matter what the above treatment choice is, it is a detriment to your health if diabetes is not taken seriously.
