The Clash of Cultures

My ideas about the native Americans have changed as a result of these assignment because I have realized that the native Americans were not primitives as the way they were described in the history books, but they had a culture that is different from that of the settlers. After the assignment, I have understood that the settlers called the native Indians that they were primitive because their culture differed from theirs. After understanding that the difference of culture led to the settlers considering the way of life of the Indians primitive, I appreciate the different culture because the culture of community defines who they are and what they do. It is important to appreciate the culture of others because each community has a culture, and the culture varies from one community to the other.

These mythologies that depict Native Americans as primitive affect the learners from the Native Americans because they are part of the group that is considered primitive. So, as a result, they will lose their self-esteem because they are considered to be primitive and not willing to change their ways and follow the white settlers. Even after learning that this resulted from culture clash, already the learners from the group have been affected by learning the truth will not help them to gain the self-esteem. Also, the learners from the white settlers will not change their mindset and understand that they were considered primitive because of their culture but they will still consider them primitive because they learned that they are and thus cannot change how they perceive them since already they consider them primitive.
