Modern Slavery

Slavery did not end during the historic period and currently there are slaves, but the system of the current slavery is different from the system that existed during the historic slavery. The main difference between the current system of slavery and the historic slavery is that current slavery is not supported by the state but in the historic slavery, the state was involved. The state is not involved because slavery is against the human rights of the victims and thus the government does not support it. So, slavery is done by private individuals who are doing it secretly since they are aware that the government does not support it. Also, slavery is illegal currently and therefore, corruption is involved where the traders bribe the authorities so that they can carry on with the practice.

My thoughts about the issue are that it is important for the government or states to address the issue by ensuring that the traders are prevented from practicing slavery. Since slavery is illegal, the states should apply the law and ensure that all those who are found engaging in this illegal trade, then they face the law. Once the slave traders realize that the states do not support them and when found they will face the consequences, they will avoid slavery. But if the states ignore that slave trade is on the rise, then the traders will be motivated and hence, slavery will not end anytime soon. If the states will seriously crack down on the slavery trade, thereby discouraging those engaged in slavery activities, they can end slavery.
