Herstory and the Cult of True Womanhood

Women in the society were considered to be home keepers and therefore their contribution in the development of the nation is omitted in the history. Though the omission of their contribution, the role that women played cannot be identified and thus, all the inventions and developments are considered to have been achieved by men. Even though women contributed a lot to the development and also, some of the inventions were done by women, historians decided to change the history by either giving credit to men for the invention of women and their development activities and also by not mentioning what the women did hence appearing as though women did not contribute anything in the inventions and developments. This act has negative impact on women because the society will not consider women to be productive since their achievements in the past are not highlighted.

The women are underrepresented in America because of how history depicts women. Since their achievements are not include in history, the current society attributes all the progress to men and therefore, almost all the positions are given to men whom it is believed that they will contribute greatly to the development of the nation. But the truth is that women can contribute to development just like men when given opportunities, and their achievements in the past re identified. History is considered in the current decision, but since history about what women did in the past is missing, then women are not considered in various posts in the government thus resulting in the underrepresentation of women since men are considered for various positions.
