1. Investigate a current global event that relates to your chosen global social problem, and that can be sociologically analyzed through the lens of ethnicity as a source of stratification. Summarize the event. Address the who, what, where, when, why, and how of the event. Include a Web link to your source. (250-300 words)

Racism, based on gender, is one of the major global social problems facing many people. In France, there was an event of a report of racism based on gender. For instance, the women who had Senegalese sounding names had very lower chances of securing a job interview, as compared to the women with French-sounding names (OHCHR, n.d.). In research that was done by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, they found that there were also attacks on women who appeared as Muslims, had been reported in European countries, including France. Moreover, there were Islamophobia acts, which typically targeted the women that were reported in 2015, approximately seventy-four percent in France and ninety percent in the Netherlands. Hence, such an event of racism based on gender is typically due to the difference in ethnicity. Such acts cause distortions of opportunities, including personal progress, which discrimination introduces.

Consequently, such discriminatory practices create intricate, denial of rights, and various forms of deprivations, which then oppress, undermine, and even obstruct the victims of such acts (OHCHR, n.d.). Therefore, such an event of racism based on gender is a serious threat to humanity. Besides, the most affected individuals are Muslim women, and the women of African descent, who are disadvantaged because they are born poor. Hence, cumulative disadvantages do not allow them to have access to opportunities such as jobs. Hence, such injustices are all based on ethnic origin. For example, almost sixty percent of women, specifically African descent in the regions of Colombia, were at a higher rate of dropping out in their ninth grade (OHCHR, n.d.). Moreover, about thirty-two percent were less likely than their black men were. Such events were also evident in the labor market, as the women of African ascent had fewer chances than black men.

2. Provide an analysis of the prevalence of the global sociological problem associated with the current global event and how they intersect with ethnicity. What factors have been cited as causes of the global social problem, and how has the country responded to the problem? Is the current global event response to or a result of the global social problem? Explain and support your answer. (250-300 words)

Racism based on gender is highly prevalent. For instance, in the United States of America, the majority of African American adults have reported having experienced racism during their years in college. For example, most African American women have been discriminated against because of differences in ethnicity and racial background in particular. Besides, about eight in ten African American individuals have reported some sort of oppressive college experience. Some of the African American women were asked concerning specific situations, which they have undergone, due to their race. Both women and men reported that people often acted as if they were suspicious of them in particular. For example, the women were viewed as if they were ugly or not smart, due to their race. The college-educated black women were also fond of believing that their race has negatively affected their ability to succeed in their lives (OHCHR, n.d.). Others who had at least one experience in college believed that their nature of being black harmed their potential of moving forward. The pattern of racism has been consistent almost in all institutions of higher learning including even the job markets, and interactions with law enforcement. Therefore, the global current event is due to the global social problem (OHCHR, n.d.). For example, the majority of men reported having been unfairly stopped by the police, especially due to their race, as compared to the black women. The men also reported high cases of people being suspicious of them as compared to the women who had less of such experiences. Moreover, the women reported to have been subjected to jokes and slurs, or that people assumed they were prejudiced just because of their initial racial background.

3. Assess what other factors, if any, contribute to the inequality of the global social problem within the context of the global current event. (100-200 words)

Racism is typically due to differences in ethnic backgrounds. Moreover, racism based on gender often occurs because of some reasons. For example, some victims of racism based on gender are born poor, hence their lives come with a disadvantage. Moreover, their source of origin comes with educational opportunities, including attainment. Moreover, due to the cases of social stratification, most women of African descent have more likelihood of facing more disadvantages (For Black Americans, experiences of racial discrimination vary by education level, gender, 2019). Consequently, such disadvantages do not allow them to be equally treated, for example, they will not have equal job opportunities. Moreover, due to the difference in incomes between black men and women, the men have more privileges than women, hence the women are consequently racially discriminated against due to their low standards.

4. Determine what strategies could be implemented to alleviate the global sociological problem within the context of the global current event. (150-200 words)

There are some strategies, which will help, in alleviating racism based on gender. For example, affirmative action policies are quite beneficial and effective. Besides, such policies do not only focus on gender issues but also focus on the women of African descent, in the process of alleviating the cumulative disadvantages (OHCHR, n.d.). It is also important to reconsider the gender norms, which typically expose the young women to cultural and religious symbols of discrimination.it is also important to review the conventions, which majorly deal with the issues with racism based on gender. Hence, the appropriate response should be provided concerning specific challenges, which the women face due to intersectional discrimination (OHCHR, n.d.). Finally, there is a need to consider protective policies, to help support the violence against women of particular ethnic groups, especially during armed conflicts, including the abuse of domestic workers who are employed abroad. Other considerable individuals are such as the women who are often victims of rape, hence subjected to stigmatization, due to their ethnicities.
