Analysis of Discussion Comments

After watching the Banking on Nature video, I thought that Mr. Tercek idea to combine the two sectors was a fantastic idea. I do not understand why many felt it was a controversial move. I believe that many businesses should focus on ways of keeping the environment safe. I believe that condition of the environment affects business. His idea to include government agencies and stockholders demonstrates the need to protect our environment. Many businesses used resources from the environment to operate. Without those resources businesses will not exist, for example, some businesses rely on clean water, air, energy, and other environmental resources to survive. The environment offers so many benefits and it should be protected by all means. Mr. Tercek concept highlights the environment as an essential need to businesses, therefore, businesses as well as government agencies should invest in keeping it scared to keep businesses floating.

 

In chapter two outlined business ethics. All players in a business should maintain a sense of morals when operating in the work setting. An organization can expect some players in the organization to breach business ethics, including the organization itself. There are policies in place to ensure unethical ethics do not take place, however, one’s own morals and values ultimately is the key in decision making to behave in an ethical manner. For example, when I was a teenager, I worked for a major grocery chain, as a cashier. At that time during the early nineties people way of paying was using through paper currency, versus today’s plastic payment. Well, I became aware of a group of cashiers that was overring customers and voiding out the transaction and pocketing the money. When you are working for the public, you get to know your customers and gain a respect for them. And the cashiers target normally consists of elderly people. When another fellow employee told me about the scam. I suggested that we go and tell the manager, and we did.  Several cashiers along with two supervisors was arrested once all the details emerged.

The second video discussed the probability of an organization based in Wisconsin using microchipping as approach to track their employees whereabouts. In the case study I believe this issue to be a moral and privacy issue for employees. I truly cannot believe nowadays that employees will give employers that much control of their bodies. I personally see so many things wrong with this issue for example, is it health, what if issue go wrong with the microchip? Who’s going to be legally responsible for employees who exbibit medically conditions? Not to mention employees who might already having existing medically conditions. I once worked with a woman years ago who could not work in a certain area of a factory because of her pacemaker.

 

Employers have the obligation to remain honest as well. Since the emerge of technology many organizations have been bombard with ethical issues concerning privacy, such as selling consumers information, and spying on customers. However, in one such concern that surfaced about the Alexa recording device aided in solving a murder mystery involving the popular device.  It turned out that the victim had an Alexa recording device was with a built-in microphone which police were able to assess through the device audio files. The question remains is this in fact is an invasion of consumers privacy? How much do we really know about how our smart devices work? Should companies inform us of such hidden devices? I guess we will never know, or will we?
