Summary of Characteristics
The approach of the research article referenced herein are quite numerous, however, I will focus on some of the few critical ones. The study is employing sampling and recruitment for the inclusion and exclusion criteria in order to properly identify and describe the experience under investigation. Also, the study is focused on recruiting the participants so as to attain the major theme which is to learn and understand if LTCF care for pneumonia is positively correlated with the residence of family references when a qualitative and descriptive study design is used (Carusone et al., 2006). Therefore, it can be noted that the goal of such a descriptive study is to describe a phenomenon and its attributes. However, sometimes it becomes quite holistic like in the case of the article because of the massive collection of data from diverse sources so as to obtain a profound understanding of individual participants.
Summary of the Article
The article is an advancement of a qualitative study conducted on resident and family member perspectives on in situ care for pneumonia. It employs a descriptive study design to collect data and of course, highlighting the fact that both the residents and the family members preferred answering that the pneumonia ought to have been treated in the nursing home (Carusone et al., 2006). The study findings suggest that various intervening efforts to lower hospitalization of nursing home residents suffering from pneumonia are positively correlated with the resident and family member preferences.
Critique
Basing on R8360 Guidelines for Reading and Evaluating Qualitative research article, this research article has suggested an appropriate topic for the enquiry, with most of the qualitative research methods chosen fitting the research design and question (Carusone et al., 2006). Despite sampling and recruitment showing some limitations, the findings and conclusion are consistent with the method chosen and the descriptive data being sought.
