COVID-19 And Its Effects
The Coronavirus known as COVID-19 is a virus that affects the respiratory system. The acronym CO in COVID stands for corona, VI stands for the virus, and D stands for the disease (Azcentral, n.d .). Currently, there is no cure for coronavirus, although some of its symptoms can be treated by getting early care. COIVD-19 is a significant issue in the healthcare industry at the moment because the most affected are those with long-lasting medical ailments such as heart diseases and diabetes. The elderly and babies also stand a high risk. This is because they have low immunity. This paper expounds on the effects and preventions of coronavirus and how healthcare industry is making the most effective changes. Comment by Pamela Czapla: Good to see the left-justified adjustment. Comment by Pamela Czapla: This needs to be a direct quote:CO stands for corona, VI stands for virus, and D stands for disease.
Effects Comment by Pamela Czapla: Good formatting adjustment.
Coronavirus has dramatically affected the ordinary daily lives of people in an attempt to stop its spread. It has led to an increase in mortality rates for many all over the world. The pandemic has affected hundreds of countries in a matter of weeks. Remuzzi and Remuzzi (2020), argues that while Italy has been mainly affected, control events in China have reduced new cases by more than 90%, which is not the case elsewhere. Comment by Pamela Czapla: Awkward Comment by Pamela Czapla: What is your source for this statement. Comment by Pamela Czapla: This paragraph is quite choppy. It starts out saying that it has affected many and ends by saying China reduced cases by 90%.
Travel Restrictions Comment by Pamela Czapla: The different sections come out of nowhere. The reader has no idea why you’re jumping from effects to travel, etc.The introduction should lay out the reason for the writing and what it will discuss.
Due to the increasing rate of the spread of the Coronavirus across the globe, many nations have decided to close down their countries to prevent international spread. This prevented the movement of people from country to country and later just allowing the transportation of goods. According to CDC (2020) travel restriction is been encouraged whether it’s by air, bus or train, car, and RV travel. Because if traveled by air, there are airport terminals and waiting lines where you can easily come in contact with other people and also infected surfaces. Comment by Pamela Czapla: Noun/verb agreement. Comment by Pamela Czapla: I don’t see travel mentioned in this source.I guess one can see this discussion in the travel section. Comment by Pamela Czapla: Not a sentence.
If traveling is necessary, a good amount of medicine to last through the trip is needed, pack a hand full of alcohol-based hand sanitizer, wear a mask, make food preparation because some restaurants are closed, also keep checking for updates where you are traveling from and where you are traveling to, rules might change (CDC, 2020). Comment by Pamela Czapla: Awkward.
Economic.
The global economy has been dramatically affected by the Coronavirus. In an attempt to curb its spread, many jobs have been lost, many companies and recreational centers have been forced to shut down. Many nations are forced to convert their resources to the health sector. The outbreak of Coronavirus has disrupted the Chinese economy and affecting the planet. Economic shocks reduced labor supply and increased demand , business had to shut down which increased in rising costs (McKibbin & Fernando, 2020, pg. 46). Preventions
The best way to avoid contracting the virus is to stay away from exposer to the virus. The virus is contacted when a person has been exposed to an infected person droplet (sneezing and coughing in the air, or holding a door handle, etc.) among other things. Some people do not show symptoms of the virus at all. Comment by Pamela Czapla: exposure Comment by Pamela Czapla: contracted Comment by Pamela Czapla: only one droplet? Comment by Pamela Czapla: How does this sentence fit in with the rest of the paragraph..
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2020), how to prevent contacting the disease is by staying in touch and been informed on updates from public health officials. Asking questions when in doubt and having a plan. Having a plan includes emergency contact list of family, friends, health providers or 911. Also preparing for possible illness is another way of prevention. By having a room aside for anyone that falls sick in your household, making sure they quarantine and been isolated from everyone else in the home (CDC, 2020). Comment by Pamela Czapla: Noun/verb agreement. Comment by Pamela Czapla: Not a sentence.
An everyday prevention steps are to wash hands often, either with hand sanitizer or soap. Avoiding touching mouth, nose, and eyes then touching someone else. When feeling sick, stay home, cover mouth when coughing or sneezing either with a tissue or if you mistakenly cough or sneeze in your hands, make sure they are thoroughly washed with soap and warm water. Clean and disinfect any surface that is often touched in your surroundings. Also, be prepared to practice social distancing everywhere, stay about 6 feet away from other people (CDC, 2020).
CDC (2020) states that symptoms to watch out for during this pandemic are fever, cough, or shortness of breath. Stay away from other sick people whether it’s a family member, stay home and have a healthcare provider called if any of the symptoms persist.
Healthcare Industry Comment by Pamela Czapla: Why dd you eliminate the Arguments section. That is part of the requiremets for P3:While presenting your own argument, you should also anticipate and refute counter-arguments or alternative approaches. By showing that you understand other approaches and being very clear about how your approach is preferable, you will be more likely to convince readers to take your advice.
COVID-19 affected everything including the healthcare industry. Doctors, Registered nurses (RNs), Licensed Practitioner Nurses (LPNs) were at the center of it all. Hospitals generally suffered, employees were laid off, or put on furlough. Employees who are still working at the Emergency room works overtime and some even got contacted with virus, while other employees who works at clinics barely have patients to attend to. Patients are also affected by this; patients are not allowed to come with family members to appointments or even come into the hospital to see patients. Patient doctor relationship has declined since COVID-19, except in critical situations, appointments are now via telemedicine. Hospitals and employees are losing patient and money. Comment by Pamela Czapla: Noun/verb agreement. Comment by Pamela Czapla: Comment by Pamela Czapla: What are your Sources, statistics, or examples for the statements?
Since the virus, 45% of adults in the U.S as mental health illness. The pandemic has affected people’s mental health in a negative way because of stress and not knowing when the pandemic will be over. As the pandemic continues, the mental health worry will continue to increase. Research shows that the job loss of many individuals also increased depression, substance use, distress, and anxiety. (Panchal, Kamal, Orgera, Cox, Garfield, Hamel, Muñana, and Chidambaram, 2020). Comment by Pamela Czapla: This is not a sentence.AlsoWhat is your source for this statistic? Comment by Pamela Czapla: Include page number(s) when you paraphrase:Research shows that job loss is associated with increased depression, anxiety, distress, and low self-esteem and may lead to higher rates of substance use disorder and suicide.
Conclusion
COVID 19 is an infectious disease that has no vaccine at the moment. The effect this virus had on healthcare industry was huge , an increase in mortality rate including patients and healthcare workers. Economically, the healthcare workers suffered a huge lose in income due to cancelation of procedures and appointments. The healthcare industry is making the most effective changes by having their employees call patients to reschedule appointments for further dates, healthcare providers are limiting their appointments to only chronic issues and patients who really do have to see a healthcare provider gets a temperature check at the entrance of the hospital and also a face mask. This way they are controlling the spread of the virus.
