The movie Fireproof is a great example of communication breakdown. It is also an excellent example of God’s grace, and how a relationship with Him gives us the strength to love each other. I have recommended Fireproof to several friends, and I support all that it stands for.
With that said, this movie showed a couple that did not have children. They appeared financially comfortable, and of course they had a supportive family, who eventually led them to Christ. Do you think the dynamics of the relationship and the communication between Caleb and Catherine would have been different if there were small children in the home, if they were struggling financially, and if they were meeting resistance from their parents and/or friends? How would things have been different if one of them had been married before, or if there were stepchildren in the relationship?
I want you to think about how the concepts of listening and communicating apply in different situations. You all are in different walks of life, and many of you have stated how this course has challenged you to listen and communicate more effectively. Your clients will also have different experiences, and therefore I want you to think about how you can take these concepts and educate your clients about communication skills.
Thoughts, questions, or comments are welcome.
