Synthesize the Scholarly Literature

This week, you continue developing and practicing the skills necessary to complete a comprehensive literature review. Remember to stay well-organized. As you embark on writing this review, remember that a literature review should not read like a book report, or simply be a string of studies from an annotated bibliography. Instead, you should use your concept map (or table) and outline to help give the reader a comprehensive picture of the literature in your topic area. You can do this by using the skills of summarizing and critiquing the articles-but also synthesizing and aggregating the sources in your review.  The written assignment this week will aid you in synthesizing your literature.

The Literature Review: A Research Journey

Last week, you worked on critically analyzing research related to your topic.  Although you only had to analyze two research articles, you should always critically analyze all scholarly sources you read.  Once you have analyzed each source, you can start synthesizing and aggregating the information you have collected.  In other words, the next step is to integrate or combine your resources to determine what conclusions can be drawn from the articles as a group, whereby the focus is on content (conclusions, hypotheses, or premises), rather than the individual authors or articles.

Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course by providing new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic.
