Acupuncture Acupressure
Pricking the skin or tissue with needles to alleviate pain
Pressure on certain points on the body to control symptoms :pain nausea
How does Acupuncture work
Gate- control theory :
Needles stimulates peripheral nerves
closes gate within the spinal cord
prevents ascending pain impulses
NOTES: This does not accurately describe the true mechanisms of acupuncture analgesia, it provided a first step into understanding the mechanisms of acupuncture.
3
Endorphin model:
Successful in explaining certain type of acupuncture analgesia, however unsuccessful in explaining other type of acupuncture.
Acupuncture theory
Energy Imbalance
( too much or too little energy flow from body’s maridian circuitry)
Acupuncture therapy
Acupoint stimulation allows energy to enter into meridian circuits where an energy deficit exists
Acupoint stimulation also releases energy by providing a kind of safety valve to allow excessive flow by diverting from overloaded meridian circuits
THE FIVE ELEMENTS & THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO ENERGYFLOW BElWEENTHE INTERNALORGANS
generating interaction
overcoming interaction
Biorhythm cycles of the meridians
ACUPUNCTURE ENERGETICS & NEUROENDOCRINE MODULATION
ACUPRESSURE
Alternative medicine technique.
Similar principal to acupuncture.
