Activity #6: Skeletal Muscles

Introduction

The easiest way to learn the muscle names and movements is to get off the couch and get moving! The type of movement a skeletal muscle produces depends on the way the muscle attaches on either side of a joint. Remember, the bulk of a skeletal muscle lies proximal to the joint crossed. Skeletal muscles can only pull, so during contraction a skeletal muscle moves the bone distal to its insertion point.

Objectives

1. Name and perform the common body movements.

2. Name, locate, and identify on a cadaver image or model, the major muscles of the human body and state one action of each.

Materials Needed

· A partner to record your skeletal muscle movements

Directions

1. Set-Up

a. Write the actions of each skeletal muscle listed in Table 1.

2. Video

a. Have your partner video you demonstrating the action of each skeletal muscle you listed in Table 1. Say the name of the muscle and the action while you perform the movement.

b. Once finished making the video, post the video to your YouTube channel.

3. Take the APR practice quiz.

4. Paste the link to the video and attach your practice quiz results in the assignment submission tab labeled “Activity 6: Skeletal Muscles”.

***Be sure that your video is not private, if it is private, I will not be able to watch it and will not be able to give you a grade. You are welcome to delete the video after you receive a grade for the assignment.
