PART 2

The reason I chose this topic is because this topic asks the question on whether students with AD/HD can find success in the classroom. This article goes in-depth on the research, surveys, interviews and field notes that were taken to see if the student with the AD/HD disorder, could be a successful functioning student in the classroom given that students with AD/HD tend to have lower function performances than children in the general classroom.

This action research looked at 2nd and 3rd grade students from students who had IEP’s and tested and those waiting to be tested. The data retrieved showed that because students with AD/HD generally exhibit poor executive functioning which averts the student from having the capability of controlling his/ her impulses, as well as sustaining focus during the school day unless implementing behavioral strategies and early intervention in the primary grades, will the student the chance to have the maximum potential of success and are able to cope just as the “normal” students.

This topic supports my current professional role or future professional goals in that it will allow me as a special educator to gain knowledge of this disorder and how to communicate and educate both student and parent about the disorder order as well as the many learning disorders that fall under the same category, so that my students may have the best possible outcome.
