The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) is an organization that establishes quality and efficiency standards for nursing, ensuring that patients are provided with the best care that prompts their healing (Chulay et al., 2020). The organization has provided essentials for students who pursue masters’ programs in nursing to ensure that they get the required professional skills and expertise required to handle patients in their work. The organization also ensures that these essentials prepare the nurses to work on themselves to become better professionals as well as in their interaction with the patients and their colleagues (Fineout-Overholt and Melnyk, 2015). It ensures that the nurses who go through their programs obtain an imaginative, creative, evolutionary, and transformative thinking that is essential for the quality and efficient delivery of services in their work. These essentials provide the nurses with the curricular framework and elements needed for practice in the profession.
As a nursing professional, these essentials apply to me in several ways contributing to my development and efficiency in the field. These essentials will help me grow to understand healthcare needs for the patients and the healthcare facility that I work for (Chulay et al., 2020). With the knowledge I gain from organizational and systems leadership, I will have the right direction to organize and plan myself in a way that promotes patient care and safety. I will also get to know what the healthcare organization I work for requires of me as a professional to ensure patient care and safety are guaranteed. I will also get to have the skills to integrate whatever knowledge I gain from these essentials into practical application. These essentials will also be of great help to me in gaining an understanding of the healthcare policies and advocacy required of me as a professional (Burns, 2014). These essentials will apply to me in that they will help me become a better version of myself in my professional practice ensuring that I provide quality and safe care to my patients.

All the master’s essentials are relevant for clinical practice to guide and inform various aspects of nursing. Essential I, which consists of background for practice from sciences and humanities is important as it directs a nurse on how to integrate nursing knowledge in all the settings. This includes knowledge from scientific findings, public health to improvement of quality of care (American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), 2011). Nurse should stay informed on continuous advancements to enhance the promotion of care. Essential II talks about organization and system leadership, which requires a nurse to have leadership skills to promote decision making and problem-solving in the nursing practice (Oldland et al., 2020). Also, it enables a nurse to be able to collaborate with others and effectively lead healthcare teams.
Essential IV involves the translation and integration of knowledge into practice. The knowledge acquired in school helps a nurse to offer advanced care to patients by applying evidence-based practices in patient care, solve problems and make informed decisions (Curtis et al., 2017). A nurse is expected to use a patient-centered approach to deliver services that are enhanced through using evidence-based practices. Essential V consists of informatics and healthcare technologies. Technology advancements can be applied in nursing to improve care delivery (AACN, 2011). The availability of technology in patient care helps the care team to be connected for easy sharing of information.
Essential VI consists of health policy and advocacy. Nurses can participate actively in the formation of health policies by providing policymakers with information about healthcare problems and possible evidence-based solutions. Nurses can employ strategies aimed at positively influencing healthcare outcomes (Oldland et al., 2020). Lastly, essential VIII involves clinical prevention and improvement of population health. The promotion of population health begins with nurses who provide patient-centered care. This includes all the aspects of a patient life as well as the care plans, and management of evidence-based care in the prevention of health problems (AACN, 2011).
