Topic You must select one of the following four case studies and complete a case write-up based

on your chosen case. The four choices are:

1. Cash Flows at amazon.com

2. Discussing Variance Analysis with the Performance of a Basketball Team

3. Dream Chocolate Company: Choosing a Costing System

4. St George Hospital: Flexible Budgeting, Volume Variance and Balanced Scorecard Performance Measurement

The cases are already uploaded in eCollege, under Cases. Please download the file, unzip it

and you will be able find all four cases in the unzipped folder.

This is NOT a group project!

Only select one case out of the four above. In your case write-up, you should answer all

questions under the “Case Requirements” or “Action items” section to the best of your ability

and knowledge. Most of the questions can be answered with the information provided by the

case combined with what you learn from the lectures, but there are some occasions where you

may be required to do your own independent research or study. It is OK if you cannot answer

some of the questions. Just do the best you can.

Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. Any student who commits plagiarism will receive a grade of zero.

Other requirements

• Length: 1000 to 2000 words.

• Clearly include your calculations, tables, and other materials relevant to your case.

• 1.2 to 1.5 line-spaced.

• Times New Roman Font.

• Referencing to other articles/essays/books is not required, as this is a case study. However, no plagiarism is allowed. You should present your own ideas and your own words.

• Executive summaries are not required, although you may choose to write one according to your own judgment.

• Please clearly write your NAME and Student ID on the front cover.

• Your paper must be submitted as a single file in the MS WORD or PDF format. Files submitted in any other format will not be opened and will be given a grade of zero.

• All relevant Excel tables should be attached or copied-and-pasted to your WORD or PDF file either within the main text or as an appendix at the end. You should NOT submit Excel tables as a separate file.
