Assessment 2 (Part 1) - Linked CLOs 2,3 and 4.

This is a staged submission report whereby submission follows the associated weekly topics. The individual business plan is provided as a formalised structured digital template which requires you to periodically load your responses. This activity is an important demonstration of the consolidation of your knowledge gained throughout the semester. Submission dates for each stage are embedded in the report template. You will be provided with marked feedback at each stage.

Your deadlines for this report are:

1) Week 5 (25/08/2019 23:59): Cover page, business idea, business structure and business diagram

2) Week 7 (15/09/2019 23:59): Measuring success and Cost identification

3) Week 9 (29/09/2019 23:59): CSR and Break-even calculation

4) Week 11 (13/10/2019 23:59): Ratio analysis and submit your report to Canvas Turnitin for similarity check (submission instruction will be provided to you in later weeks).

Please note: Once the deadline has passed, the relevant section will be locked from further editing. For example, after 25th/08, you would NOT be able to change your business idea. So make sure you finalise your response early.

Note 2: Since you are unable to change your response after the deadline, if your final report has a very high similarity rate, you would NOT be able re-write your report.  So do not copy other's work from the beginning .

Your Business Plan commences with an' idea' for your business.  It can be a new product or a new idea to improve business performance of your company. "Your business summary should focus on why your business is going to be successful as a result of your innovative “idea” or initiative. Begin with a brief overview of your company, and then complete the following table and describe the new product/service you are proposing? Explain your idea that you would like to adopt. Why would it be useful for your organisation?"  Note, your 'idea' can be for an existing company or for a fictitious company.

The expected learning outcomes are:

1. Explain the role of accounting in managing a business or organisation; including the concept of 'resources' available for business uptake, and, how ‘costs’ are implicated in the use of such resources.

2. Identify and justify various approaches to measuring the performance of an organisation inclusive of financial performance, social performance, and environmental performance.

3. Interpret and analyse a range of accountability approaches and the implications of financial performance (measured in terms of cash flows; income statement and balance sheet performance) on social and environmental performance.

Closely aligned with the Business Report is the "Big Idea" - which provides you with an additional opportunity to present your idea as part of an RMIT University competition.  While you are not assessed on being part of the University competition, you might find it will inspire you to contemplate different business ideas to improve the social and environmental performance of companies, and lives of different stakeholders.  We will encourage the best participants to consider putting their ideas and business plans forward to the team managing the RMIT Big Idea submissions.  We will have guest lecturer coming to the recorded session in Week 2 and also encourage students to participate in the RMIT information session that will run in Week 2. To help you find your 'Big Idea', see this  useful template

Further details will be provided in class.  You have until Week 5 to formalise your idea.  Note, this is an individual assignment and we recommend that you keep your idea quiet!!
