Accessing the SURFRAD (Surface Radiation Budget) Network

1. Click on the following link to take you to the SURFRAD website:

https://www.esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/grad/surfrad/index.html

2. In the column on the left hand side of the webpage click on “Radiation plots”

3. Under “Plot data from:”, select Fort Peck, MT. Under “Select date to plot:”, uncheck “Most recent data” and set the relevant date (according to student number on lab document). Under “Select the variables to plot”, select downwelling solar (SW ↓), upwelling solar (SW ↑), downwelling thermal infrared (LW ↓), upwelling thermal infrared (LW ↑) and total net radiation (Q*). Then select “Plot data”.

4. Take a screenshot of the plot showing the diurnal radiation budget. On a mac: ​command + shift + 4​ and then click and drag to select the area around the plot. On windows: ​Prtscn ​or ​alt + Prtscn. Paste the screen shot into a word document. ANSWER LAB QUESTION 1 BEFORE PROCEEDING

5. On the same webpage as the plot, under “Same plot for:”, select Desert Rock, MV. Take a screen shot of the plot and add into the word document with the plot for Fort Peck, MT.
