Financial Research and Compliance Objective
This course provides you with the skills of using applied research in the arena of accounting in determining the interpretation and application of various standards and regulations to accounting practice.
You will learn about the role and importance of research in the accounting profession.
Understand how authoritative setting bodies develop and implement various standards.
You will use various sources such as the FASB Codification System to perform accounting research.
Analyze compliance in the review and preparation of financial reports.

Some assignments will ask for you to look in a ‘glossary’ and provide definitions or to identify essential characteristics of a term. This is not a ‘copy and paste’ exercise. Instead, read the definition and then restate it ‘in your own words’. Provide an example of how that definition or term is used in the accounting profession.
Example: If you are asked to define a characteristic of an asset, not only provide the term/definition, but also provide an example of it. If an asset is something that is owned by the company, then provide an example of what that might be in the company you have chosen to follow.
