Academic experience
I became interested in becoming a psychologist when I was in high school and assisting a classmate who was passionate about committing suicide due to challenges she faced at home concerning family separation. Later through my advice, my classmate became composed, and she was able to bring all her entire family together. My classmate is currently pursuing medicine at a prestigious university in New York City. Although I successfully solved the problem, I was so helpless due to the psychology field's limited knowledge. Therefore, I became personate in enrolling in psychology classes when I would join university; to acquire more knowledge of human behavior and acquire effective techniques to help those with psychological needs in society (Diseth,p. 340).
As a psychology major, I have been performing exemplary in all my courses, particularly in clinical psychology, where I have a lot of interest. I have also gained a lot of experience because I also work part time in the nearby clinical hospitals in the guidance and counseling department. I offer counseling and guidance to people who have attempted suicide in the parts, drug addicts' individuals, and challenges on separated families in the clinical hospital. I perform well academically due to applying theoretical knowledge I acquire in the classroom with real-life situations at the clinical hospital.
Additionally, during my junior years in university, I was assigned the role of assistance resident in one of the university's dormitories. I assisted students who had challenges related to drugs, alcohol, suicide, depression, and family under this role. Currently, am also an intern student at one of the neuropsychological rehabilitation center, a facility that focuses at teaching students how to identify brain-injured people and also how to help them overcome this challenge. The ability to talk in various languages and know various ethnic norms and values is my main strength in enhancing my education, which enables me to provide cultural competence care to individuals across races. The other strength in my career is applying score psychological tests that have proved efficiency in clinical assessment. For instance, I successfully administer and apply the Wechsler Memory Scale and the MMPI during counseling (Otto, p.80). My main weakness is the lack of enough exposure to big health facilities outside my university vicinity. As a student, I lack enough financial resources to benchmark from healthcare facilities outside my state since tours and excursions provided by the curriculum are not enough.
My short goal is to perform well in all remaining examinations, provide exemplary services in the neuropsychological rehabilitation center during my internship program, and help as many individuals with psychological challenges at the clinical facility part-time. My experiences as a student have made me realize that evidence-based practice is an effective way of providing quality care to psychologically challenged individuals (Turner, p.190). Thus, my long-term goal is to become a competent teacher and a researcher in the clinical psychology field.
As a researcher, I intend to concentrate mostly on clinical, personality, community assessment, child adolescent psychotherapy outcomes, and schizophrenia. Based on the Academic Integrity Policy, I am supposed to act accountably and responsibly even in the absence of supervision. It means adhering to academic honesty policies established by the university. Adhering to academic integrity policy will prepare me for the remaining examinations on time, which will enable me to deliver quality work to my lectures. Lack of preparation for exams to violate academic integrity policies make students more stressed.
