Abstract of the Paper

I plan to study the greatest poem of Alexander Pope named as “Eloisa to Abelard.” My research will focus on the questions that how the dramatic monologue took place in the poem and how the content of the poem affect the perception of individuals with respect to English literature and culture. My study will continue with that how much the poem, written in heroic couplets and based on the love of a couple, influence the audience.

The keen study clears that the poem “Eloisa Abelard” has a determined rhyme plot and edifice of the poem deny its unhappy, virtually obsessive quality. Bishop employs the direct approach to show her loneliness and desire while keeping distance.

Wallace, Tara Ghoshal, a scholar analyze the character of epistle titled "Eloisa to Abelard verse Eloisa in English poet Alexander Pope in his work, "To One Thing Constant": The Passion of Pope's Eloisa. This will help to identify what is the influence of the characters of the poem on other aspects of English literature. According to the Richmond, Hugh M., human sensibility has been suffering from a decline from the later history of European culture. H. M. Richmond explains that the history of the poems based on the love lyric, at least, exposes a gradual enhancement of human experience and knowledge. His work will clear the importance of love lyrics in the English literature and its influence on the culture. The poem “Eloisa Abelard” is based on the love story written in the heroic couplets. Alexander Pope used women as protagonists who also emphasize the importance and association to the women character in his work. The very important question arise in my study is that how dramatic monologue in the poem impact on the perceptions and hits the sympathies of the readers.

Conclusively, my study estimates the design to know how the individual communicates with the love and desire message of the poem. The given patterns alternately generate the measurements that bring the certain idea of the reader; how he connects with the readers in what intensity? What methods did he use to convey compassion for love and for the people affected in each side of the power dynamic?
