For leaders to be effective in leading organizations, they need to portray some attributes or traits. Firstly, effective leaders are visionary and charismatic. Such leaders have a clear vision for an organization and should be able to guide the team towards achieving the vision with clear ideas on how the goal will be achieved (Aga, Noorderhaven & Vallejo, 2016). An effective leader should posses’ excellent communication skills and passionate about what they do. The leader should communicate clearly and precisely to others. Communication helps in inspiring and motivating employees. Moreover, an effective leader should be able to inspire, empower and motivate employees (Aga, Noorderhaven & Vallejo, 2016). This helps to drive employees forward and makes employees feel valuable to an organization (Park, Lee & Kim, 2016). Effective leaders also lead others by example and this helps them to gain respect from their staff and sets the standards for others to follow. Lastly, effective leaders should be flexible and able to accommodate the ideas of their subordinates.
Heidi Ganahl posses the traits of being visionary and passionate leader. According to the video, she has great passion for the dog day care business as shown by the way she interacts with the pet dogs. In addition, Heidi Ganahl accommodates creative ideas from franchisees. She also promotes effective communication by encouraging employees to communicate their ideas and feel part of the growth of the business. She is also a leader who sets standards which the employees in the organization must strive to meet.
Some of the strategies used at Camp Bow Wow include transformational leadership. Heidi Ganahl has been able to create a vision for the dog day care business and set standards that her employees have been able to meet. One of the ways she has achieved transformational leadership is through the use of open policy in which she encourages employees and franchisees to share their ideas and play a role in the growth of the business.
Participative management involves empowering employees to take part in the process of making decisions. This makes people to feel valuable and part of an organization (Park, Lee & Kim, 2016). Participative management has been successfully used at Camp Bow Wow. For instance, Heidi Ganahl seeks for creative ideas and feedbacks from franchisees who work with the organization. She also allows employees to express their ideas as one of the ways of getting the employees to be committed to the growth of the business.
