ABCDs of Evaluation
ABCD analysis
· Authority: who created the content? What makes this author credible, accountable, or an authority on the topic?
· Bias: what is the bias? is the bias clear or veiled? What about its purpose? Is it educational, entertainment, or commercial?
· Currency: when was the page last updated? Is the information still relevant?
· Documentation: is there additional, credible information to support the information or opinion of the web source?
Each of these aspects can provide important information beyond the content of the source itself. Analzying this information helps you identify:
· the type of source it is and whether or not it is a reputable source
· the parts (author, publisher, etc.) you will need in order to cite the source
Doing this analysis at the outset will make citing and annotating easier at the end. Adding this information in your paper contextualizes the information you are using for your reader (Handout
