Endangered Language Research
Proposal: Choosing an Endangered Language & Finding Sources
This assignment consists of two parts:
1) The name of the endangered language you have chosen to do your research on, together with some basic information about it, such as the number of speakers, the geographic location of its speaker population, its classification under the UNESCO framework of language endangerment, and any other introductory information you find in your initial searching.
2) A list of potential sources on which you will draw in your research. The sources should be properly formatted in Chicago style* with complete bibliographic information. Each source should be accompanied by a brief (2-3 sentence) description of what it is about and what you expect it to contribute to the knowledge you will need to write your final paper (to get a sense of what each source will offer and whether it’s appropriate for this project, read the abstract (for journal articles) or publisher’s summary (for books).
