ABA 534: M7 Project:

This week for your project you will learn how to make a changing criterion graph with EXCEL and then design your own graphs from data provided in scenarios using a changing criterion design:

STEP 1: Now, you will learn how to make a changing criterion graph. Here is a video to walk you through the process.

Use the link on the M7 Project assignment page for the CHANGING CRITERION DESIGN graph video.

STEP 2: Next, create your own graphs demonstrating a changing criterion design using the data from these scenarios:

Remember to include on your graphs: [REFER TO COOPER CHAPTER 6 PPS. 127-128)]

· Horizontal axis

· Vertical axis

· Axis labels

· Condition change lines

· Condition labels

· Data points and data path

· Breaks in the lines that connect one data point to the next phase change

· A figure caption containing your intervention method (the independent variable) and what you measured (the dependent variable)

SCENARIO 1:

Ms. Gross decided to teach Joseph 40 new words through a sight-word procedure. Deciding that the introduction of all 40 at once would overwhelm her student, she decided to teach Joseph four new words at a time. Once he learned these four, she then added 4 more; once these were acquired, she added four more, and so on. Create a changing-criterion graph displaying fake data of percent correct for 4 words, 8 words, and so on.

SCENARIO 2:

Rebecca seems to be very shy and does not participate when the children in the first grade are asked to speak extemporaneously about various topics. When asked to tell the class about their last field trip or what she did over the past weekend, Rebecca rarely gets out five words. Her teacher is concerned, wants to increase her oral capability, and indirectly bring her out of her “shell”. The teacher decides to approach this situation gradually. In a systematic manner, she changes the conditions under which Rebecca is expected to speak, by first giving her a picture that she must describe to her teacher first, then a small group of peers whom Rebecca herself chooses, then describing 3 objects (again, which Rebecca chooses) to a slightly larger group, made up of mostly peers she chooses and some peers that the teacher chooses. Once Rebecca succeeds in these contexts, the teacher requires her to choose a topic on which to speak to the entire class.
