Augmentative and Alternative Communication
This week we are learning about technology that
will enable children with communication disorders to communicate with others. Now lets look at some forms of AAC.
This is a simple choice communication board. This one is to make choices for free time activities.
This is an interactive choice communication board. This one is to make choices for free time activities. The child can remove their choice and either hand it to someone or match it to the area where the choice is located.
This is another choice board. This one is to make choices for any activity.
This is an interactive song board. The picture of the animal is placed on the barn and the song is sung. Pointing to the essential elements of the song as it is sung.

A topic specific board to be used when working on the computer. Commonly used words and phrases are permanent, while a changeable area is available for program specific vocabulary.

The BigMac is a one message, VOCA, Voice Output Communication Aid. It is good for simple greetings, requests, and repeating lines as in songs and stories.
This is a simple, two choice VOCA. It can be used for choice making or yes/no questions.
This is a four choice VOCA called a Cheap Talk.
This is an eight choice VOCA called a Tech Talk 8. It has 8 choices at 8 different levels so it actually says 64 things. The overlay can be changed for each level
