MGMT 601: Assignment #4 – Book Review – 20% of your Final Grade
Choose a book that matches a topic from the syllabus, write a critical review of it, use the rubric to formulate your paper. Makes sure that you that you write about leadership, not management. These terms are not the same.
Before you start working on your review, you should thoroughly explore the grading rubric at the end of this instruction and clearly identify key elements based on which your review will be assessed. The marks come from answering what is asked of you in the rubric.
In your review, briefly describe the content of the book, identifying key assumptions and conclusions, the most important ideas of the authors, and your opinion on them. The main focus of your review is to provide a critical analysis of the book, using criteria mentioned in Part A and B of the grading rubric below. Your analysis should lead to a justified conclusion: whether you will recommend this book to your colleagues and classmates or not and why. You also need to assess relevance/applicability of the concepts of the book in both overall business settings and personal work settings.
Requirements
· Critical thinking must be demonstrated in each section to get a good mark
· Address each of the categories below:
· Purpose and Audience, Authority, Accuracy & Reliability, Objectivity, Currency, and Coverage. The body of this paper should use the headings given in the grading rubric.
· The paper should be at least 3000 words and should be written as a professional book review.
· Submit your paper via Turnitin before the due date; late submissions are penalized by 10%/day

Part A (40%) - Identify the most interesting aspect of the book, supporting your thoughts with reasons and examples. Provide a summary of an important theme the author makes about the subject. Use three key words to support this theme. Give your opinion supported by reasons and the author’s perspective. 4 - 7 pages total for this section.
Part B (20%)
· Personal: How can you use what you have learned at work and in your business career?
· Why (or why not) would you recommend this book to others?
Part C (30%) - Address each category as shown in the grading rubric
· Intro, Summary, Analysis, Recommendations, Conclusion (see notes, many of these headers will change names)
· Purpose and Audience, Authority, Accuracy & Reliability, Objectivity, Currency, and Coverage
· Professionalism, Grammar, & Format

Part A – Summary, analysis, and conclusion - Total 4 to 7 pages Summary Summarize an important aspect of the book (i.e. 1 key theme with 3 key terms). Make sure to introduce the theme. Then discuss in 1.5 to 2 pages that theme. Then discuss in 3-5 pages discussing the 3 key terms related to that theme. Note · Do not use point form, use full sentences and full paragraphs. Remember: complete paragraphs need more than 5-10 sentences and 3 cites each for this part.
Example Intro (do not use a header for intro) Tell the reader the most interesting theme you found in the book. Tell me the purpose of writing the book is to explore this theme, and then tell me three key terms that make up this theme. For instance:
The purpose of this book is to discuss mindfulness in America, during chaos. Minnis (2020) defines mindfulness as (define)... Minnis (2020) discuss how mindfulness depends on three compassion, listening, and understanding. Then define these three terms from Minnis (2020).
Summary (change heading to your main theme) APA Level 1 Heading: (use the main theme as your header ie. Mindfulness) · Write 1.5 to 2 pages on one theme · Define and discuss this theme. · Tell the reader what the author had to state about the theme in the book. · Why it is important for leaders in training? · Make sure to tell me your opinions on them (and everything else asked for as seen below) as well as how that theme relates to the three key terms you chose. Level 2 headers: for each of the 3 key words - Write 3 to 5 pages in this section · Discuss what the author had to state about the key words in the book, how the key word is defined and used, why it is important. · Also make sure to use what is required below, to discuss each of the three terms, how they relate to each other, and the main theme).
Also for the theme and each key word: · Give opinion of summarized aspects · Support opinion with reasons for your opinion and citations from the book · Give position on author’s perspective · Discuss reasons for thoughts
