Creation of family partnerships and environment supports a child's development and it is important because they reinforce a child's desire to learn. Positive family relationships have been seen to result in improved grades, positive behavior, attitude, increased participation and attendance among others.

Being an advocate for your students may entail providing support to the parents as well. Finding a way to be supportive can be difficult, especially if you have different views on early childhood than the parents. One form of support is to be a good listener and then to offer sound advice. Advice is certainly different than a command, so don't be too hesitant in providing the parents with more effective approaches to raising their children. Strong communication skills are necessary and can be difficult to display in tough situations. Regardless, maintaining a relationship built on trust is key!! Please see the resource below for information on how to build trust using communication.
