SECTION 2 - DETAILED COURSE INFORMATION Prerequisite: At least a C in MATH 1001, MATH 1101, or MATH 1111 Credit Hours: 3 lecture hours Course Description: This is a non-calculus based introduction to statistics. Course content includes

descriptive statistics, probability theory, confidence intervals, hypothesis testing, and other selected statistical topics.

Student learning outcomes:

• Identify and apply appropriate methods of data collection. • Effectively communicate quantitative concepts and results. • Use graphical and numeric techniques to describe data. • Develop an understanding of the concept of probability and the

relationship of probability and statistics. • Develop an understanding of the various probability distributions. • Use the appropriate method for estimating values of population

parameters. • Use the appropriate method to test population parameters.

Proctoring Information: This course contains two exams (Midterm and Final Exam) that must be proctored using ProctorU. ProctorU is a live online service that allows you to take your exam in a setting of your choosing (home, work, etc.). ProctorU is available 24/7, but you must schedule your proctoring session at least 72 hours in advance to avoid any on-demand scheduling fees. You must create a ProctorU account to schedule your proctoring session. This can be done through the ProctorU link that you will find in the content browser. In order to use ProctorU, you will need a high-speed internet connection, a webcam, a Windows or Apple operating system, and a government issue photo ID. You must use Chrome(preferred), Firefox or Safari browser with Flash installed. It is recommended that you visit https://test-it-out.proctoru.com/ prior to your proctoring session to test your equipment. Additional information is available at the ProctorU Resource Center. Also, be aware that the start-up process takes about 10-15 minutes with the proctor. This time will not affect the time available for your exam. Proctoring Cost:

Tutoring The Department of Mathematics offers free tutoring in the Math Academic Resource Centers (MARC) on both the Macon and Cochran campuses. SECTION 3 - COURSE ASSESSMENT INFORMATION There will be two proctored exams (i.e. Midterm and Final Exam), four unit quizzes, and several homework assignments in this course. All exams, unit quizzes and homework assignments will be in ConnectMath. The proctored exams will be available for a short period of time. These exams must be completed during the availability period. Also, the exams will be proctored using ProctorU. No make-up exam will be given for any reason. A missed exam will be awarded the grade of zero. The four unit quizzes have due dates and must be completed by the due dates. The due dates for the unit quizzes will not be adjusted for any reason. A missed unit quiz will be awarded the grade of zero. All homework assignments will be due by December 7th. However, in order to proceed from one assignment to the next, you must complete the previous assignment. The due dates for the homework assignments will not be adjusted for any reason. A missed homework assignment will be awarded the grade of zero.

CRITERIA FOR DETERMINING THE FINAL COURSE GRADE Your course grade is calculated as:

Course Grade = 0.16(homework Average) + 0.24(Unit Quiz Average) + 0.30(grade on Midterm) + 0.30(grade on Final Exam)

Grading Scale: The standard grading scale will be used in this course. Course averages will be rounded to the nearest hundredth. Letter Grades will be assigned as follows;

[90, 100] results in an A; [80, 90) results in a B; [70, 80) results in a C; [60, 70) results in a D; [0, 60) results in an F.

SECTION 4 - COURSE EXPECTATIONS

EXPECTATIONS Online courses are not self-paced and regular participation in online courses is required and will be recorded by your instructor. Students are expected to complete all course assessments using ConnectMath.

Online learning assumes a high level of maturity and professionalism. It is designed to make learning more convenient but no less rigorous. The lack of a formal meeting schedule in an online course can be liberating. It can also be demanding because you must determine when to make time for class. Self-discipline and good time management skills are necessary when taking an online course.

Please remember that you will spend as much or more time completing an online course as you would taking it in a traditional face-to-face/classroom format. The special circumstances of taking an online course demand regular and consistent participation. Be sure to pace yourself throughout the semester making sure your responses to communications and assignments are timely. If you are not able to participate in any assigned class activities, you must contact your instructor immediately.

The instructor is required to report “no-shows” or students who do not show up the first day of class. Therefore, all students enrolled in the course must verify their enrollment. This can affect financial aid and you may be dropped from the class. Your instructor will notify you as to how to verify your enrollment before the beginning of the term to ensure that you are not reported as a “no-show”.

ATTENDANCE POLICY Students are required to complete all of the following items in order to avoid being reported to the Office of the Registrar for “non-attendance”:

• Complete the Entry Quiz, which is located in our course in Brightspace/D2L.

• Complete homework assignment 1.1, which is located in ConnectMath.

• Establish a ProctorU account (you do not have to make an appointment, at this time, for your midterm and final exams.)

A failure to complete all three assignments by August 22 will result in the student’s name being reported to the Office of the Registrar for “non-attendance,” which will result in the student being “dropped” from the course.

At the end of the semester, your last day of attendance will be recorded as the last day that you completed an assignment. For most students this will be the day they take the final exam.

A student is considered present in an online course on any day if any of the following occurs:

• Submission of an academic assignment • Submission of an exam • Documented student participation in an interactive tutorial or computer-assisted instruction

• A posting by the student showing the student’s participation in an online study group that is assigned by the institution

STUDENT WITHDRAWAL POLICY Students are encouraged to read the withdrawal policy found at https://www.mga.edu/registrar/registration/drop-add.php before dropping/withdrawing from the class.

Students who wish to withdraw from the University must complete the Withdrawal Form, obtaining the required signature from the advisor, and submitting it to the Office of the Registrar at the Macon campus or the administrative offices at other campuses.
