Assignment 1: Becoming a Data Storyteller – Group Project (Step 4: Share and Use)

Data storytelling is a structured approach for communicating data insights, and it involves a combination of three key elements: data, visuals, and narrative.

—Brent Dykes, Forbes Online contributor

Module 1 first introduced you to the concept of data storytelling. You now apply this idea to a Group PowerPoint Presentation by integrating your group's aggregated data with visuals (graphs) and a narrative (descriptive presentation).  This collaborative assignment requires contributions from every member of your group. Each individual will communicate and negotiate the role he or she will play in fulfilling the group assignment. Group members will identify how and where they will share information with group members using tools such as Skype, Doc Sharing, Group Discussion Board, and others.

As you create your data story, keep your audience in mind. Which stakeholder group or groups will be in the audience for the presentation? How can you apply the art of data storytelling to motivate individuals in each stakeholder group toward program goals and improvements?

In this Assignment, you and your group members work towards your final submission.

To prepare

Examine the "Measuring What Matters" article, which details Step 4: Use and Share Evaluation Data. Review the  Overview of Learning Outcomes Project #4 and Group Project  to understand components that must be included in the group presentation. Then, revisit the Week 7 Group Discussion Board in Module 4, in which your group aggregated evaluation findings.
