There are many different issues that an administrator can deal with daily. Some of these can be major or hard line decisions that they need to stay steadfast with, and others can be adjusted depending on the situation. If the administrator is unwilling to modify or adjust when it is appropriate, then it can cause issues on many different fronts. It can affect the morale of the employees in that they are working to bring in business, but the administrator is unwilling to work with the employee or the customer. Along with that, the company can lose business if they are unwilling to work with a customer to come into agreement. When I worked in the insurance business selling, I would see this often with underwriters. A lot of times, they would slow down or stop business because they would analyze every detail. I know that they were being through in their job, but at times they were unwilling to budge, and it cost us business. Sometimes it was the right move, but other times it was costly. The same is true of administrators in that they need to know how to analyze information, know the impact it can have, and then make the decision. There are times where there may not be policy in place for certain situations, and they must decide using the best information they have.
