Read the story chosen and research the culture of the country the story is from. You need 1-2 pieces of quality research (not counting our Norton Anthology) for the paper. First, write an introduction section, which gets the audience’s attention, introduces the story and its country of origin, discusses the importance of culture in general, and includes your overall opinion of how well it represents its culture and your personal opinion of the story (which will be the paper’s thesis). Second, write a body that explains (using your research) the culture of the country you are discussing. You can talk about cultural norms, the kinds of art the country thinks of as important, etc. Then explain how the story reflects this culture and why you feel the way you do about the story. Third, write a conclusion for the paper that reminds me of your points, restates the importance of culture, and leaves the audience thinking. The paper can be written in first person, should be around four pages long, and should use several quotes at least. MLA format needs to be used. Make sure the sections of the paper are unified, coherent, and cohesive. You need a Works Cited page for your cultural research, but you do not need to include the Norton Anthology on your Works Cited page.
