Reflective Paper
While being an intern at the Agricultural Bank China, I had a unique experience of getting to know different basic working systems of a Bank. The work included the advisory of financial experts regarding the investments to be filed. The most sorted after work at a bank, customer-oriented counter service, was the highlight. Last was working with excel sheets using Java to formulate models about cash flow and getting statements. This was all done under different supervisors. All of them had much knowledge to share and to let me have a clear idea of a working environment.
The investment sector of a bank deals with corporation’s governments and other large financial institutions that would be helpful for the concerned part to raise capital as well as in devising a strategy. The supervisor’s keen eye kept me motivating throughout and helped me think outside the box. The supervisor allowed me the creative freedom. In the mean time I had be careful with my ethics as well in order to abide by company’s code of conduct as well as a sense of responsibility made a huge difference over the intensity of the work as well as my devotion towards it.
The most interesting part for me was the customer-oriented counter service experience. In this way you are actually dealing with people. Having cash withdrawals/deposits, working with savings and money transfers. This made me polish my communication skills , how to deal with people as well as the problem solving qualities flourished. The technical overview in moderating the cash flow system gave me means to imply my educational knowledge practically. The open end to reach maximum outcome really lifted my confidence to try and imply new theories.
Apart from all the positive things many glitches were also seen in the bank system and environment that could be easily noticed and pointed out. The first one was no automatic retrieval of token system that led to many problems. The bank looked jam-packed. There was no discipline among the customers. Some of them wanted for hours and their turn did not come even after that. Thus we lost many customers due to that. Therefore, an auto mated system of token must be created.
Another problem seen was the lack of employee cohesion, the team working together must always be driven. But the employees did not show much seriousness in their work. They were not responsible in their tasks. They kept putting work on delay as well as the team did not have any confidence over each others work. For this one must act as a leader, the main manager there must be giving out motivational talks and having a keen check over the employees so they feel like they are being checked.
Another thing that must be kept in check is the servers up gradations. The date saved is that secured with the developing technology. The data sequence is not user friendly. So the new system must be devised by experienced experts.
Being an invaluable experience of internship, it really gave me a great amount of independence as well as a deep sense of responsibility. Getting to know investment services, customer dealings and the cash flow systems might have resulted in my struggle to keep up with the work load, if without proper mentorship. In regard to my tasks assigned, there was nothing else I would have opted to do instead of this internship that gave me a true banking experience, the one only a few get an opportunity to avail. The hands-on customer service gave me a clear picture to what the work is actually supposed to be as well as how I have to be at constant service to the customers, whether face to face or on call. I really want to join a bank as soon as I step into the professional world. I have also learnt the practical importance of teamwork and the synergy that occurs within a harmonious team. I completed my internship with professional integrity and honesty, while positive interactions with my superiors and co-workers helped me form a coherent understanding about the workings of the organization.
