Information and communication in the Internet era

The essay will talk about the internet that how the use of the internet is affecting the flow of information and communicational ways in the modern era of technology. Eli Pariser claimed in his essay “When The Internet Thinks It Knows You” that internet is a reliable source of communication and information and it needs to develop to make sure the personalization of data by adding its availability and way of presentation. Nicholas Carr claimed in his essay “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” that although the internet is making the easy access to the bundle of information, most of the people are unaware of the usage and people prefer to use less material as compared to in-depth analysis. The internet can play its active role to access the information through some modifications, and it is more beneficial to access the data through the internet.

The Internet is contributing its positive impacts by increasing communication and making it easy to access the information. Pariser argued in his essay that internet is resolving the problems of daily life and the main contribution of internet is that it is helping to decline the distance by providing a lot of resources of communication and a source of information such as Twitter, Facebook, and others. Pariser stated in his essay that “Today’s internet giants Google Facebook, Yaho0 Microsoft see the remarkable rise of available information as an opportunity” (31). The given statement is predicting the importance of the internet to provide the information. On the other hand, Carr Stated that “Net is becoming a universal medium the conduit for most of the information that flows through my eyes and ears and into my mind” (37). The given statement is predicting that Carr also admitted that internet is playing its positive role to increase the flow of information. It is easy for everyone to access the information and to connect with loved ones through the internet.

Personalization of data on the internet or social media website is largely becoming an issue of modern age and providing the solutions which the users never found before. Most of the people are unaware of the personalization of data, and when they use different social media websites, it creates security and personalization issues for them. The new and advanced ways have developed to advance personal information and security. The Pariser stated in his essay that "they are racing to offer personalized filters that show us the internet that they think we want to use" (31). This statement is largely talking about the advancement of security paradigms because they knew the requirements of users. Whereas Carr stated in his essay that “The ultimate search engine is something as smart as people or smarter” (43). The given statement is predicting that author is admitting the advancement of technology and stating that today's advancement of the internet is smarter than man and now it is easy to access the information and to personalize the data. It can be concluded that internet technology is more advanced than any other source of information, but due to the lack of awareness people are unable to customize their knowledge and to access the proper and authentic information through the internet.

The use of the internet is providing different unique ways to access information, but it needs to revolutionize the data and process more to access of information because most of the people only read abstract or first few pages. It is of sure that internet companies are providing easy to access ways so a new generation can quickly get the desirable experience. Therefore, both authors explained this factor in their essays because of the availability of educational or other information is a central contribution of the internet. Carr claimed in his essay that “It is clear that users are not reading online in the traditional sense; indeed there are signs that new form of ‘reading’ is emerging as users ‘power browse’ horizontally through a title, content page, and abstracts going for the quick win" (38). This statement given by Carr is predicting that all the information is available on the internet, but people are using these sources to get benefits they only consult abstracts of few information not in-depth information. Also, Pariser claimed that “Companies that make use of these algorithms must take this curative responsibility far more seriously than they have to date” (32). According to Pariser point of view internet companies such as Google, Microsoft needs to develop the approaches according to present demand. It is easy to conclude that all kind of information is available in a good flow at the internet, but it depends upon people that how they access this information, moreover companies need to make the ways attractive to attract people toward the provided data.

In conclusion, the internet is positively impacting the society by increasing the flow of information and by making the data more personalize it is possible to resolve security issues. There are most of the people who are not using proper internet sources and prefer to access only abstracts. Both of the essay although presented some negatives of internet usage but it can be seen that both are also talking about the importance of internet usage.
