7-1-1 Short Answer: Scientific Developments
The news story I chose was “Comparing Primate Vocalizations”
https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/09/190903134734.htm.
On project two, I developed the question “If the monkeys can combine only two
speech items, how did human beings evolve from this to be able to come up with
infinite combinations?” After reading the article, “The 50 Greatest Breakthroughs
Since the Wheel” I’ve learned the true significance of this question. Back in the
first-millennium Alphabetization was created, which is also listed as the twenty-
fifth greatest breakthrough. The alphabet made knowledge more accessible and
searchable and may have potentially lead to the rise of societies that used phonetic
letters, which is a writing system used for transcribing the sounds of human speech
into writing. Before the discovery of the alphabet the means of communication
between humans was primarily grunting or body language, which is how most
primates communicate today. This news story along with the question “If the
monkeys can combine only two speech items, how did human beings evolve from
this to be able to come up with infinite combinations?” has a large importance to
myself as well as society since it elaborates more on the evolution of humans and
the possible evolution of other primates.
