DISCUSSION QUESTION IN SPORTS MANAGEMENT
6A
This week, you are learning about inductive reasoning and deductive reasoning. Inductive reasoning moves from specific instances to a general conclusion while deductive reasoning is the opposite--it moves from a true generalizable principle known to be true to a specific conclusion. For this forum, provide an example of inductive reasoning and an example of deductive reasoning. Do you feel most research uses deductive reasoning or inductive reasoning?

Initial Response: Initial responses should be no less than 150 words in length not including your reference(s) and supported by at least one reference (aside from the textbook). Initial responses are due no later than 11:55 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Day 3 of each week. This allows time for other students to respond to your initial response. Please be aware that just “cutting and pasting” sections of articles (in lieu of writing an original initial post) is not acceptable and will negatively impact your grade.

Peer Responses: Students are required to respond to at least two (2) other student’s initial postings (and the instructor) with significant comments that have substance. Peer responses are due no later than 11:55 p.m. ET on Sunday, Day 7 of each week. All peer responses must be substantial and significant and should be no less than 100 words in. If possible, one of the responses to another’s work should be from an opposing viewpoint. Your response to your peer's work should be engaging and informative with good substance (just stating “I agree…” is not acceptable). Your responses should contribute in a meaningful way to helping advance our knowledge of the topics the class explores. Your responses to another’s work should be posted as a sub-thread to the student’s original posting of whom you are commenting.

Gwen Jorgensen front loads her meals before training and competing. She is a triathlete and won an Olympic gold medal. For this forum, you are going to find, read and report on a scientific, peer-reviewed research article on sports nutrition to discover that what an athlete eats is critical for their success. During your Master’s degree program, you will take a class dedicated to sports nutrition, but for this forum, find one scientific, peer-reviewed research article on this topic.
You are to look for a scientific, peer-reviewed research article. The best place is the library or PubMed. Do not report on a peer-reviewed review paper on the topic. A review paper summarizes several original research papers. You can use a review to help you find a scientific study. Also, a research study paper usually has the following sections: abstract, introduction, methods, results, conclusions, figures and tables. A review paper does not have these sections.
In your initial Forum post:
· list your selected article
· provide the reference for your chosen article
· describe the study and the results
· state what the study concludes
· evaluate the article. Do you think the study made appropriate conclusions from its data? Was the study designed correctly to address the hypothesis?
· Finally, provide your opinion on the matter. Be sure to justify your position.
Your initial forum post must be at least 300 words and submitted by 11:55 PM EST on Wednesday. You must continue the discussion by following-up with two other students' posts. These posts must be >150 words and submitted by the end of the week.
