In all disasters, be it natural or act of God, one must prepare for the worst-case scenario having a plan into place. Of course, with any plan put into place there must be a layered approach for preparing who does what during the events. The reason behind this is to ensure the company is still up and running (Savage, n.d.). The roles that are needed in contingency plan are the CP Manager acting as a liaison between and coordinating various internal and external stakeholders management, key customers, suppliers and business partners, employee representatives and third party services/equipment to elucidate the CP requirements and capabilities, using rational Business Impact Analysis processes to normalize and prioritize CP. Next being compliance Manager whom supports the CP Manager in both achieving and demonstrating compliance with CP policies, strategies, standards, etc. The purpose of this role also is to manage routine CP management reporting, drawing relevant information from BIAs, plans, incidents, disasters, exercise, develop and help deliver CP training, assist with BIA and text/exercises planning.
The last position to consider is a CP Office which is the Crisis Coordinator, BCP Manager, BRP Manager, IT DRP manager and others, the CP Manager in large organizations may be supported by a dedicated CP management Office and/or subsidiary providing project management support to other CP related function (Dr Gary Hinson). The IT team will get it’s planning from such positions in order to execute them properly. The training for the planning would help as individuals who are not currently in those roles can begin working them upon disasters with very little training in order to prevent a stoppage in production.
