Instruction: (Post one answer to the question and at least two responses to your classmates. Over the course of a session, candidates participate in the discussion on at least 3 different days. All required posts are posted before the end of the session. Please check the syllabus and rubric for details on discussion board expectations.)

Remember in order to get full credit for this message board you must post at least one post before the closing day of the message board. The point of these boards is to create an ongoing conversation so be sure to check back on your posts and respond to the ongoing threads.

Discuss the ways teachers can help students expand their vocabulary.

Vocabulary is very important and it should be used in all areas of the curriculum. It is also essential for the students reading comprehension. Teachers need to ask and have the students express themselves in order to build their vocabulary skills. Teachers need to expand their vovabulary. Adding vocabulary into not only reading lessons but other subject areas help our students. “on incorporating the words into a larger structure of meaning.” (Erekson et al., 2020, p. 237). Have visual aids with sight words aroun the classroom can expand vocabulary. For instance in the circle area. We have words written along side the picture of the word. The student will look at the picture in order to know what the word is. The more they look atthe word the more he will be able to read it with out looking at the picture. Rotate those picture words that way they just do not memorize the word by sight but actual read the words. Also through songs and paly can build the students vocabulary.

“Teachers also need to provide students with enough repetition so that they can identify many words.” (Erekson, J. A., Opitz, M. F, & Schendel, R. 2020.) By going over words and sounding them out the students become fluent in their vocabulary and their reading comprehension.

One way teachers can develop vocabulary is to first develop meanings to words. Before introducing a word it is important to develop an understanding of meaning to link the word too.“meanings can gain deep and permanent places in long-term memory”(Erekson et al., 2020). There are three steps to teach children to acquire vocabulary: create meaning, independent word gathering, and lastly search for words that go with the meaning.

As educators we must model ways that the students acquire their vocabulary.

Discuss the ways teachers can help students expand their vocabulary

Teachers can help learners to expand their vocabulary by reading chosen texts and letting students contextualize such words.  As such comprehension bears vocabulary all the time and shares that if a teacher wants students to know the new words, the think-aloud strategy can serve well in making them learn it. Furthermore, through playing word games in which the teacher targets new words and allows students to use pictures or word cards in choosing words and stating what they mean, it is possible to permit students to learn as many words as possible. According to (Erekson, Opitz, & Schendel,.2020, p. 217) “Readers need to have both a wide reading vocabulary and the depth in meaning for those words, as well as strengths in relatedness among meanings.” Moreover, a teacher can challenge a student to use new words in dramatization, role play, or in other expressive situational contexts; hence they will build the meaning of such words.

In addition, the use of quick, fun activities allows students to get the meaning of new words. Such fun activities could be Kahoot, pick and hand over to whoever can tell, and much more like fail meaning fall off. According to Erekson et al. (2020) “Effective teachers assess and teach with the understanding that meanings provide students with more hope of long-term memory for learned words, hence they do not stop at definitions alone” (p. 218).  Students will struggle to give meaning so that they do not fall out. Reflection is another critical way of letting students learn vocabulary. The presence of
